Question about HP OfficeJet 7310 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Won't scan nor fax

When I open HP Director, select "Scan Document", I receive an error stating "An error occured communicating withthe scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again". Everything is connected properly and no error lights on. I have even tried to reboot the computer and see if this helps...it does not.
Yesterday I had the exclamation on the front of the printer keep flashing and an error message on the printer screen stating unable to connect to scanner device. Try turning printer off then back on again. This never cleared up the error. So i unplugged the power and USB cable and this seemed to have cleared the error message. Now I have the 1st error message which I mentioned in the beginning of the email. I hav run all of the updates for the HP software but to no avail. I am using windows xp. Would greaty appreciate any assistance you can lend me!
Thank you,
Robin

HP multi units are notorious for scanner failures. It is just a weak component in their machines. I have seen this time and time again. The only solution is to change the scanner out or purchase a different machine. Just keep in mind the notoriety HP has which failed scanners. If you want to venture into the replacement of the scanner the following website might have the product you are looking for. Otherwise, search around the net for a scanner assembly unit for the OJ7310. But, be prepared scanner units are not cheap.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Due to any reason when the HP Communications process fails the HP Scan application won’t work. To resolve the issue you’ll need to follow the procedure as given below---

  1. Force Quit HP Communications (if running)
  2. Force Quit HP Scan (if running)
  3. Turn the printer off
  4. Turn the printer on
  5. Select Scan Picture from the HP Director application
  6. When the HP Scan application complains, press Reset
  7. HP Scan will then hang, but HP Communications will restart
  8. Force Quit HP Scan (again)
  9. Select Scan Picture from the HP Director application (again)

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Have you checked the cord from the scanner lid to the scanner base. if that doesn't work I would try uninstalling the scanner and then reinstalling it. It sounds like a problem with the twain driver for the scanner.

Connection issue between XP Pro and HP C6180 all-in-one

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

An error occurred while communicating with scanning device

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

An error occurred while trying to scan to a PDF

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:

Settting "Scan To" Destination using HP Director

Those were the most relevant solutions I could find for you. I hope some of this information is helpful. Good luck.

  1. Load the original.
  2. From the HP Director , click Scan Picture . A preview of the image will appear in the HP Scan window.
  3. Make any edits from the HP Scan window and click Accept . The HP PSC sends the scan to the HP Photo & Imaging Gallery , which automatically opens and displays the image. The HP Photo & Imaging Gallery has many tools to edit the scanned image. For more information about using the HP Photo & Imaging Gallery , see the onscreen help that came with the software.
Stopping a scan To stop scanning, press Cancel on the front panel. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
