Question about ASUS Eee 4G Notebook

1 Answer

Eee pc won't turn on (I think have already posted this, not sure)

For the 8 days my asus eee pc 4g surf hasn't been turning on. I hit the power button, and two lights come on (the hard drive light and the wireless card light) then the lights turn off. Also, when I plug it into a wall, those same to lights blink every 30 seconds or so as if I was repeatedly hitting the power button, but I never even touch the power button as it is doing this. I opened it up 3 days ago, and found a broken red fan wire, I soldered the wire back together, but it still won't turn on. the LCD screen is broken, so I unplugged it from the motherboard and tried turning it on again, but it still won't turn on. I have tried almost everything, including removing all the wires and pressing the power button. the power supply is fine, so is the battery, I checked them both.

here is a list of what i have tried doing already:
-unplugging lcd screen then pressing the power button.
-unplugging fan, speakers, mic, wireless card, RAM, bios battery ( i removed it then plugged it back in after a minute) then pressing the power button.
-i tried removing the laptop battery(not the bios battery) then pressing the power button.

After I did all of the above, I got the same result after pressing the power button, the hard drive light and the wifi light turn on for a split second, then turn off.

So what is wrong with my computer? and can I fix the computer?(if it can be fixed, please tell me in detail exactly what to do, because I am not that good with computers)(note: I already know that I would have to buy another lcd screen)

(i just realized I accidently posted this in the wrong category before i posted it here, sorry, new to the site)

I already did what leecom72, said to do, but it still won't work, so does that mean my motherboard is the problem? also, I already know that the LCD screen is broken, it has a giant crack in it, so I still have to replace that, but to replace the motherboard would cost me over $179.99, add that to the price of a new screen and it comes to over $400, I only paid $360 for the eee pc, so I am wondering if maybe I should just go buy a new one for $249.99 on instead of trying to fix the one I have now, unless, does anyone know of a place where I can get eee pc parts for under $100?

okay, I tried some new RAM, and it still wouldn't turn on, also, I have only dropped it once, and it was only from a height of about 6 inches, I read somewhere that someone drop tested the eee pc from a height of 10 ft. and it still worked! also, my sister dropped her eee pc 2g surf about 4 times and it still works like new.

and....I know that the replacement parts are going to cost me more than a new one, the motherboard and replacement lcd alone, cost at least $400. so I am just going to keep the eee pc 4g surf, for spare parts, and buy a 2g surf from, afterall, I don't that big of a hard drive, 2G is just fine, I use mainly small programs, and the larger programs I use, I run from my external hard drive any, i just have to get the money for a new one. Thank you so much for the help (even though my computer couldn't be fixed) i really appreciate it, because not even my computer repair teacher could figure out what was wrong.

Sounds like a classic case of hardware failure!!!!!!! possibly your motherboard, start by removing the battery, hard drive and optical drive.
disconnect the laptop monitor and connect the laptop to an external monitor.
remove the memory modules clean the brass contacts with a eraser and place back in the machine 1 at a time to check to see if they work, remember to plug in the AC power suppy, if you see the post screen then its a memory issue and you can then reconnect your laptop monitor to see if it lights up, if everything works but the monitor then its the inverter or backlight that has blown and is easily repairable saving you money on a brand new screen

has the laptop been dropped at all? if so then buying replacement parts will cost you more than a brand new laptop itself! that maybe your only option at this stage, but before you do try a new memory module first just in case the memory is damaged

Nothing happens when I hit the ON Button

Could be the power supply. With a bad power supply it will often shut down unexpectedly and then not turn on at all.
