I want to scan and email a document from my new HP DESKJET F4280 printer. I can scan it, and then I try to share it, but when I hit the send button it says there is no internet connection. Am I right in thinking that I need outlook express to do this, as when I try to send emails via outlook express is comes up with a message saying POP3 .... and fails. I tried to save the scanned doc to my word file, but the text is encrypted then. Please help

When you scan a document it must be scanned with OCR software. The default scanning method will scan a document as a picture, not a document with letters and words. The OCR software will recognize the letters and put the scanned document in the proper format to open it with MS Word. The software that you scan with should have a setting for OCR, read your instructions or help files to get the details if you can not find them very easy in the software you use for scanning. .

The problem with using Outlook may be that you have not set it up properly to get your emails from your email server. You do not need to use Outlook or Outlook express to send any documents, you can use your web based email server if you like, but you can use Outlook Express as well. You just need to add the document to send as an attachment to the email.

To set up Outlook Express to get your email, you must first find out what the POP3 and SMTP setting you must use. You can get that information from your email provider, it is different for every email provider. Then you go to the "File" menu at the top left of Outlook Express and select "Identities" and select "Add New Identity" and from there you will go thru a wizard to guide you thru the process of setting up your email client. Just make sure you have the POP3 and SMTP settings available for you to put into Outlook Express when prompted to in the wizard.

Why can't I connect my printer to my desktop?

It sounds like you are trying to connect wirelessly.
Have you reset the printer settings?
Also the printer software needs to be loaded.
If you do not have the disk, go to: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3390949&
choose your operating system and download the complete software package.
Hook up the printer by cable and install the software (follow the instructions the install gives).
Also, if the printer was hooked up in a network, you will have to reset the network information on the printer. The HP site above has instructions and manuals that can be downloaded.

Why can't connect my HP Deskjet F4280 to my Dell computer?

Without more information, nobody is going to be able to answer.

If printer has parallel plug (common for older printers), and your Dell doesn't have such a socket, then that's why. Parallel connections are out of fashion these days. You can get a parallel card to add to your Dell and connect it to that.

How do i scan to email

Hi,

1.Place the document that is going to be scanned face down on the scanner. Press the "Scan" button that can be located on the scanner. Another way to perform a scan is to click on "Start," then go to "All Programs." Move the mouse pointer up to "Accessories." Go down to "Scanner and Camera Wizard."

2.Click on "Scanner and Camera Wizard." Click "Next." You will be asked to choose a preference. Choose a preference, then click on "Preview" to preview the document.

3.Click on "Next" after previewing. Type a picture name and the destination where you want to save it. Click on "Next." The document will start to scan. Click "Finish" to complete the scan.

4.Go to your email account. Click "Compose" to start a new email. Look for "Attach File" and click on the "Browse" button across from it. The "Choose File" window will open up.

5.Go to the destination where you saved the scanned document. Choose the name of the scanned document. Click on it to open up the file, then click on "Open."

6.Add the necessary information in the subject line and the body of the email. Click on "Send" to complete the process. The document will be sent as an attachment file.

A full feature software and driver package for Windows 7 is not available for your product. However, the Windows 7 operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product. With the basic driver, some of the advanced product features are not available. You can print from a software program, and import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot. With this basic driver, the buttons on the product do not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. How to Scan a Document in Windows 7 By Greg Harvey The Windows Fax and Scan utility enables you to scan documents and pictures. Before you can scan documents and pictures, you must have a scanner installed on your computer. Your scanner must be listed in the Devices section of the Devices and Printers Control Panel window.

To check to see if your scanner is properly installed, open the Device Stage. Choose Start?Devices and Printers. If Windows doesn't automatically find your scanner, you can manually add it in the Devices and Printers window by clicking the Add a Device button in the toolbar and following the wizard's commands.

  1. Choose Start?All Programs?Windows Fax and Scan.

Windows 7 opens the Windows Fax and Scan window.

  2. Click the Scan button in the Navigation pane, then click the New Scan button on the toolbar.

The New Scan dialog box for your scanner opens.

  3. Use the settings on the right to describe your scan.

By letting the computer know what you're scanning, its color profile, and the type of file you plan to create, you enable Windows Fax and Scan to create the highest quality scan.

  4. Click the Preview button to see what your document will look like.

    Make any last minute changes.

  5. If you're happy with the preview, click the Scan button.

Windows scans the document and presents you with an image of your document.

  6. Click the Save As button and complete the necessary information.

Enter the filename, the type of graphics file you want saved, and then click the Save button.

To automatically forward the document you've just scanned as an attachment to a new fax message, click the Forward as Fax button.

The scan feature in the Windows Fax and Scan utility is set primarily to scan text documents. If you want to scan a photograph or other graphic, you're better off doing that directly within the Windows Live Photo Gallery.

I need to scan and email a photo. How do I do that? hp officejet 4580

  1. Put the document you wish to scan face-down on the glass. Use the alignment markers to help you square up the object. These are usually found on the left-hand edge of the scanning area.
  2. Close the printer's document lid slowly so the document does not shift position.
  3. Select a scan resolution. The higher the dpi (dots per inch) count, the sharper and more detailed the image.
  4. Push the scan button. You may have to do this on the printer itself or on your computer.
  5. Check the preview of your scan on your computer. Depending on your all-in-one printer and software, you may have to prompt your computer to display the preview for you.
  6. Edit the image as it appears on your computer if you want to make changes. Your scanning software might let you enlarge, resize or otherwise manipulate the final product.
  7. Accept the scan and save. Return the original document to a safe location.

Try lowering your scan resolution settings. Magazine quality is 300dpi. If you don't want to lose too much quality, open the file is a image editor and crop only the area you wish to send.

CD LOST OF HP DESKJET 3845

HP.com/Support>HP Deskjet 3845 Color Inkjet Printer>Drivers & Software Downloads>Pick your Operating System,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=372330&
You didn't state what Operating System you are using. I'm going to pick Vista to use as an example,

There is no full feature software and driver package for Vista. However there is a basic driver, and a workaround. Here, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01655752&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=372330&os=2093&lang=en

If you have Windows XP, here is the driver, and the HP Essential software,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=372330
First download the driver, (IN DOING all of this, DO NOT have the printer plugged into the computer, and have the printer turned off)
Click on -> HP Deskjet Full Feature software/driver: USB cable
(Size is 14.41MB)
It will go to your desktop screen. Double-click on it. If a window comes up that states Extraction Wizard, go up to the top right, and click on -> Extract All Files. Follow the instructions. Look for a file that has -> Setup, or a file that ends in -> .exe

It may ask you if you want to restart your computer at this time.
NO! Not yet!
Now download this for the same page as above,
HP Photosmart Essential Software for Photo Editing, Printing, and Sharing (Size is 6.19MB)
Follow the same instructions as I gave above.

Would appreciate a follow up to see if this 'cured' your problem.
Have a nice day.

How to scan to email (pdf) for a brother MFC-9840CDW

Solution #1 has nothing to do with the issue, the thread started asked how to scan a document to email via the mfc-9840cdw, not how to scan a email with antivirus.

Try opening up ports UDP:54925 on your Windows Firewall and try scanning from your computer instead of scanning directly from the printer to a email address. I tried scanning directly from the printer to send to a email and I get a error report of "poor line condition/out of memory" even though the line is fine.
