Question about Panasonic KX-P3196 Matrix Printer
I use my printer exclusively for printing 3" H x 5" W labels. When i need to advance the labels up to tear them off, I hit the "tear off" button and it will advance approximately 2 1/2 labels up and will throw the alignment off for the next string of labels. How can I program the printer to advance up just one label, then return back to the proper alignment for the next batch to be printed?

First, if you have your manual, look it at for possible solution. Does this printer have a "load" or "top of form" function? There may be a "programmable" setting which will back the paper back down to the correct spot. The college where I'm employed used to have several Panasonic dot matrix printers, but almost all are now long gone.

hello, can you check the settings on your printer in the menu functions, and also in the advanced properties of windows... good luck ;-)

Try this to have the printer auto-sense the size of the labels:
1. Make sure that printer power is off.
2. Press and hold the feed button.
3. Turn printer power on.
4. When the status light blinks, release
the feed button.
5. The printer advances the media to
measure and verify the length of
individual labels or tags. The printer
then prints a status summary and
remains in diagnostic dump mode.
6. To begin normal operation, tap the
feed button. The printer prints "out of
DUMP" and advances a label.

Clean your platen roller. It's the white rubber roller (that turns and pulls your labels through your printer) located under your printhead. When this gets slick it causes your labels to slip while printing.
You should use rubbing alcohol to clean it. Your computer guys may also have some cleaning wipes in a foil packet that you can use.

There are two things to consider here: 1) Is the printer set to the correct media handling setting? Look in the manual for the terms BAR-SENSE and GAP-SENSE and make sure that you have sent the correct command to the printer. 2) There is a TOF or Top of Form setting that you can send to the printer to align the perforation of the labels with the tear bar. Look for the syntax in the manual, which is free for download at zebra.com, and make sure that your perfs line up with your tear bar.
