5 Answers

I have a C7280 All-in-One and have repeatedly tried to fax a number in Canada. The recipient's fax if set up to receive but no luck. Error report always says Error 344:and notes that Image on Fax Send Report is set to Off (but I have no instructions how to turn it on if needed). Can you give me any suggestions?

First, you got the error due to the following reasons:

The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from thelocal machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors canoccur if the phone lines in the area are old or if noise is present(static on the phone line). Other reasons could be power outages andother power-related problems.

OR

The call waitingservice can cause this error. The click, heard for an incoming call, isactually a momentary disconnect of the line.

OR

The remote user has pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress.

OR

Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

*Reattemptthe fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditionshave improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail toimprove.

*Disable the ECM. Errors might still occur, and mightresult in a degraded image quality on the received page. However, theability to transmit the entire document will be improved.

*Try sending at a lower transmission speed.

Second, the note "Fax Send Report is set to Off" - after the above fax transmission failure, the printer by default prints the possible reasons why it failed but the report function is set to off.

the fax send report is off, it doesn't print out a report of the fax. that is unlikely to fix the problem but might give out some details to the problem.

1.Attempt to send the fax again when telephone-line conditions have improved.
2.If the fax session was using error correction, disable ECM.

The following error codes can appear on a fax communication error report or the fax history report. The definition of each error code is given, but the solution depends on the cause. Use the following basic troubleshooting tips to help determine the cause. However, if these errors occur every time a fax is sent or received, larger communication issues might exist

  • mmechanics Nov 13, 2008

    Check the following items:

    • Make sure that the phone cord is plugged directly from the wall jack into the back port of the fax machine that is marked "Line" or "To Wall Jack", or that has a wall-jack symbol.

    • Verify that the line interface unit (LIU) (the box that the phone cord plugs into) is seated fully into the back of the fax.

    • Remove any other device from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines, and retry the fax communication.

    • Try sending and receiving faxes on a different fax line.

    • Try using a different telephone cord.

    • Have the phone company test your line for static or noise problems.

    • Disable Error Correction Mode (ECM) if the same error occurs repeatedly.

I can send but not receive on my HP fax 1010. Both send and receive modes had been working just fine until this past weekend. I suspect I might have accidently bumped a button on the front...

Hi,

Since you have verified from the manual and see no issues with the settings I doubt that you have done some thing wron with the settings. Even though just check whether you plugging the phone line into the line jack or the phone jack on the fax machine, it should plug in to line. Also try and unplug/replug the units power cord as well as trying a different phone jack location. If tghis does not work try to capture the error that you get as this would help in entering in the troubleshooting link provided bellow:

Dialing out to fax papers. Reaches the number but instead of taking the fax it prints out a report saying: transmission verification report -- NG: Poor line condition. I have never used this fax machine...

Perhaps you indeed have lots of interferences on your telephone line, or the recipient does.
It is also possible that the unit has been set for a different telephone line standard (for some other country) - check the manual for relevant settings. If you don't have a manual, go to Brother website and download one.

We have a LaserJet M1319fMFP and it appears to recieve faxes ok, but the bulk of our outgoing seems to come back much later on error reprots saying "busy," etc., but when I contact the intended recipients...

It's very likely that if you're using autodial, you've neglected to dial "1" + the phone number, or if it's part of an office that requires dialing "9" first, the speed dial or auto dial doesn't dial the "9" prior to dialing the phone number.

My Sharp UX-355L Fax machine printed unwanted information

Sounds like you have the machine set up to print reports on all occasions, fax transmission, error, etc. You can change this by doing the following:
1 Press these keys:
The display will show:
4
FUNCTION
TRANSACTION LIST
2 Press a number from 1 to 5 to select
the condition for printing.
ALWAYS PRINT A report will be printed after each
transmission, reception, or error.
ERR/TIMER/MEM A report will be printed after an error,
timer operation, or memory operation.
SEND ONLY A report will be printed after each
transmission.
NEVER PRINT A report will never be printed.
ERROR ONLY A report will be printed only when an
error occurs.
To print from memory:
If the memory becomes full...
If the memory becomes full while the document is being scanned,
MEMORY IS FULL will appear in the display.
♦ Press the START/MEMORY key if you want to transmit the pages
which have been stored up to that point in memory. The remaining
pages will be ejected from the feeder. After transmission, the memory
will be cleared and you can transmit the remaining pages. You
will also need to transmit the page which was being scanned when
the memory filled up.
♦ Press the STOP key if you want to cancel the entire transmission.

Hope this helps. : )
