No bootable devices

I have a dell latitude c840 which did work fine. However when i try to turn it on it says "no bootable device available".
if i keep turning it on and then off again, sometimes after about 30 minutes windows loads up and i can use it like normal.

Machine does not always recognize the primary hard disk.

first thought is a failing drive but exchanging it did not do the trick.

I have checked the contactpoints with the mainboard but these seem to be ok.

    thnx for the help.

Your Hard Drive is failing. If it comes on again, back up your data to an external drive and then proceed with replacing it. Its physical location is on the righ hand side of the laptop behind the two one-and-half inches long drawer type bey (colocated with the infrared sensor window).

You probably have changed it by now. I am reading your post on Jan 17, 2009.

I would believe that the hard drive is on its way to failing.

Hi, I haven't got a Dell but try this site for the USB driver that is missing. With XP there is no support for USB2, an updated driver is required. Did you download the drivers from Dell? If not, that could be why as they may be old drivers.

Dell latitude 820 mouse driver

Whne you double click on the mouse in device manager, does it say "device not configured" or "unable to start this device". If it says "unable to start this device" try the mouse on a different computer to make sure it works properly. If it does then you probally have a software driver problem. Try contacting the mouse manufacturer or see if you can down load drivers from their site.
