Reset printer first. Meny > go to Service > choose Restore default, if issue remains try upgrade firmware.

When printing color the paper jams. This does not happen when printing black. How do I stop it from jamming when printing color.

Is that true for both print and copy job ?
Where does the jam happen ?

I am thinking if it is at the paper pickup roller area just as the job starts to print and not midway while printing, check the paper quality; dirty pickup roller; clean cork pad and try job from another tray

Printer jam after first copy

  • If a paper jam occurs when using the optional lower tray unit, check for correct installation of the upper paper tray.
  • Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and reduces paper jams.

Printing envolpes and now I have jam in print paper path how do I find the the problem

If the jam is not evident in the feeder, then you need to open the printer, remove the imaging drum and look straight down to the bottom. This area is called the registration assembly and it is the most likely spot for a jam to occur. If you see any paper there, carefully remove it. Turn the printer off first before reaching in there.

At the onset of copying one side of the paper is fed into the machine faster than the other side and the paper then jams.

you have worn pickup rollers, as a temporary measure you could take them out and clean them with rubbing alcohol and a fine sandpaper. but idealy replace them.
it could also be a jam that is blocking check the place where feeding is slow and ensure there is no dust or paper fragments in there.

The Drum unit is worn or defective. try another drum unit. this should take care of your problem. If it's new then get your money back and replace it.

Paper Jam HP Color LaserJet 2840

Pull out the drum cartridge by it's green handle then
look for your paper at the timing roll section-there is a plate you can lift or release to access jams.

other than that the fuser unit on the rear of the mfc can be pulled out by moving two levers.
