Just use a bootable CD and boot up with it, you'll come to a stage where you're asked to format your HDD.Or bootable flopy disk, when in command prompts you type format e: and press enter Or you could remove the HDD and use a external USB casing and use other PC to Quick format your HDD. Note:If you're trying to format your Laptop HDD, I will suggest that you get the all driver information for the hardwares before installing a new operating system. Because when new fresh installation is done you will be asked for the drivers for CD-rom, key board etc...

How do I insert a DVD in to my Evesham novatech computer, serial no. WO00966604?

CD s and DVD s have a tray that slides out of the computer. When you get the tray open place the disk (writing if any usually on the top) in the tray, and gently press it down so that it is held by the deice in the middle. Either the tray will withdraw itself into the machine after about 10s or gently pushing it towards the machine from the front will cause the tray to enter the machine.
Press the windows button and with your mouse click on My Computer click on the CD or DVD item and the file might open ...

To open the CD/DVD tray or drawer either press gently on the front or press the little button on the front, or else go to My Computer (above) righ click on either the CD r DVD icon and then left click on open or eject on the drop down menu that should appear

I was given a Sony PCV-RX550 PC by my sister gave to me some time ago. I was thinking about giving it to my daughter but it is older technology. Is there anything I can do to bring it somewhat up to date...

Upgrading the motherboard and cpu shouldn't be a problem. Sony cases are bought in so they will fit most mATX motherboards. You could buy a CPU and motherboard bundle that comes fully built and tested with memory included for about 100 to 200 GBP Maplin, Aria and Novatech do some good bundles and have a good help service if you get stuck putting it together.

Just bought hp dc7100 2.8ghz 1g-ram reco unit. VERY noisy fans, especially rear case fan. do i lose 1/2day returning unit or is it fixable? if fixable, is it economic? Micko

sounds like the fan bearings may have gone. Its very easy to replace, open the case and disconnect it (will only be via one power connector).

Now unscrew it from the rear of the case. You can either go without the fan as on a system of your power it isnt vital, or you can buy an 80mm fan from ebuyer or novatech for around £2 gbp to replace it.

How do I re-format a 2x serial SATA drive to reinstall XP?

How to Format a Hard Disk

After you create the partitions, you must format the partitions:

Restart your computer with the Startup disk in the floppy disk drive.

NOTE: If you are using a Windows 95 Startup disk, a command prompt is displayed and you can skip to step 2. If you are using a Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Me Startup disk, select the Start computer without CD-ROM support menu option when the Windows 98 Startup menu is displayed.

2. When a command prompt is displayed, type format c: /s and then press ENTER. This command transfers the system files and should only be used when you format drive C (or your "active" drive). For all other partitions, type format drive: (where drive is the letter of the partition that you want to format).

NOTE: If you receive a "Bad command" or "Bad file name" error message, you may need to extract the tool to your boot disk. To do this, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

After the tool is extracted to your boot disk, type format c: /s t a command prompt to format your active partition, or type format drive: if you want to format a partition that is not your active partition.

3. When you successfully run the tool, you receive the following message:
Proceed with Format?

4. Press Y, and then press ENTER to format drive C.

5. After the format procedure is finished, you receive the following message:
Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?

NOTE: This is an optional feature that you can use to type a name for the drive. You can either type an 11-character name for the drive, or you can leave it blank by pressing ENTER.
