Fuel was drained a while back i just put about 3 gallons into the tank and a little in the carb. it will crank, start and run for about 3 sec and then dies. it will only stay running if i pump the gas. Maybe a fuel pump?

Sounds like a large vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator failure, idle air control valve stuck open, plugged fuel filter. Also check for good consistent blue spark at spark plugs or jumped timing chain.Hope this helps!

I agree with emissionwiz, pump may be making noise but I suspect little or no pressure getting produced. Would take a shop 10 min. to attach fuel pressure gauge & confirm.

check the float on the carb is stuck shut not letting fuel in
