Hi,, I have replied to your other post about this same issue. Here is what i had said

"""
hi Some laptops (actually most to all ) have a partition on the master drive called a restore sector. What you can try to do is restore from this sector. To do this all you have to do is boot from that drive :) (dont worry it aint complicated) When you turn on the laptop it ask you to press a certin key to enter boot menu menu usually F9 F10 or F11 press it and then select the second part of the Local Disk it sould look like Drive 0-1 or 0-2 well you will see it the first will be the normal boot the second the Restore sector. If that dont work or it aint there simply borrow a windows disc from a friend. Dont worry it aint going to do a full install. it will detect the disc and then repair it self and boot normally. Then you may remove the disc and return it.

If you need further help please contact me."""""

I really hope that helps you and you are able to solve your issue. If you need further assistance i will be much pleased to provide it.

Forgot password to my laptop

Ha ha ha good luck with that

:-)

No seriously there are lots of answers to that question. Windows, yeah? You might get lucky with Hiren's Boot CD (Hiren BootCD 15 2) but most of the password recovery tools available or linked from there are quite old and won't support the native SATA drive you probably have - in which case you might get luckier still and be able to change the drive to IDE mode in BIOS first, then attack with one of the utilities (NTPWD, NTPWEdit, Offline NT Password Changer - see individual pages). Note that in order to run any of those you are going to have to first create a suitable boot disk: varying degree of details provided on aforementioned pages. But talking you through the job via web forums... would take a long time :-(

The point is, this is not a trivial job. The whole reason for passwords is security, i.e. to protect YOU. If any of the above technical stuff is in any way intimidating, you would probably do better to take it in to a workshop (preferably the authorised repair agents for the brand of machine). Alternatively, if there is nothing you need to recover from the computer, boot from a Windows disk (or the computer's recovery DVD or partition) and reinstall! It might even be possible to install a new copy of Windows *without* wiping everything, depending on the brand of computer and version of Windows, but don't use this method without first creating a backup copy of the disk, if there is important stuff to recover. Again, a competent workshop should be able to do all of this in a couple of hours, whereas it could take you a week if you have no experience of this sort of operation.

TL;DR: call your manufacturer's help line

Windows boot manager

Hit F8 a few times while your computer starts to boot, a boot selection screen should come up. Try selecting "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if you can boot up without running the repair install.

What function keys do i press on startup to re insatll the operating system on my acer aspire 3690

you can use the recovery disk which came along with the laptop to reinstall the OS. There is no function key to start the installation automatically, there is a backup / restore button in some laptops which can reset the OS. Check the manual for any such button on your laptop.

hi,
yea you may, but make sure that you have already created a *Ghost* image of your current setup.

All you need is a bootable CD with some utilities which will help you out.

Try "hiren's Magic Disk 9.5" : it is bootable disk with proper menus and lots of utilities to make you king of your system.

This disk is usually used by System professionals (including me) :)

Instructions:
1. Boot your system with this magic disk
2. Goto Clone Disk option (Ghost disk)
3. Choose Best compression version
4. utility will start Symantec Ghost which will ask you for the source partition and destination partition for making images.
5. proceed with proper answers.
6. once the ghost imaging is complete, store this ghost image in your external storage drive
7. again boot your system with this magic disk
8. goto Partition utilties
9. Select Acronis Partition manager
10. You'll love to use this software for hard disk maintanence.

kuldeep
