1. Your heat sink (keeps CPU cool) may have dust built up on it causing the laptop to overheat and shut down to avoid damage. Try a can of compressed air ($7.00 Wal-Mart) shoot air in all the vents on the side and under the laptop (do this outside or someplace easy to clean up) 2. Your fan to keep things cool may be stuck (the cleaning with compressed air could fix that) OR it could be broken. When you turn on your computer SOME fans power up this will let you know if it works (some only come on when needed) if your fan does not come on at all you may need to change it. You can Google laptop fans to find a replacement fan and install it yourself. Good luck My Computer Guy

you will most likely need to replace the dc jack, which is the port where your charger plug plugs into...
To test if your dc jack is bad... Remove the Battery, Plug the Power cord into laptop then attempt to power on... If no lights turn on, no fan spins.. your DC jack is bad...
DC Jacks Cost $6 to $10 but you need to find someone experienced to replace it, or you might end up with a dead motherboard as well..
The battery needs to be taken out once in a while. It is possible to use the ac adapter and power cord without the battery to power your laptop. Please press on the power button for 10 seconds for your computer to turn on. Check if you can see any message on the screen.
