Question about Hitachi 46W500 46 in. TV/DVD Combo

Dark Blue Screen

I was watching tv and noticed the picture was getting darker. Now it is very dark and very blue. I checked all the wires to make sure nothing came loose and then just hooked up basic cable directly to the tv and have the same thing. TV has a built in DVD player, and screen is dark and blue so I'm sure its the TV, not any component wires. Any ideas?

You might've done this already, but first I would try the "Magic Focus" The button can be found all the way to the left of the buttons panel on the tv itself. If that has no effect, try playing around with the settings within the tv. Click menu on the remote and see what happens when you try settings like color, balance, and contrast. Report back.

JVC HD-56FN97 when turned on blue light is solid, red ligt blinks a few times and goes out. My picture is very dark despite adjustments I make in the menu, any help or feed back apreciated.

The set does use a lamp for a light source and average life is 2 years or 2000 hours---many lamps before they actually fail get to be darker.

Curved blue lines on screen.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

Faint blue vertical bars on screen

What you see on your screen are retrace lines, it can happen for various reasons. Jut lower the screen voltage by adjusting the knob specified as "screen" on the LOT, this will disappear.

Dlp has dark blue areas on screen

Have you tried magic focus? if that doesn't work
replace the pcb convergence board,, It costs $96 and takes 10 minutes to replace you will have to manually line up your convergence afterward as the settings go to factory default. Everyone that owns this set has or will have to replace this part within 3 years

Start by going to a good college and studying electronics 101 followed by electronics 102, math, algbra, etc, until you get an engineering degree. Now as for the dark purple and blue. It sounds as though you have a picture tube getting weak in the red gun and unless you can turn the red gun up you may need a new set. Anyway, good luck and have a great week
