Question about Belkin Wireless-G Plus MIMO Router with USB Adapter and Geek Squad Installation

Can't access certain sites using Belkin G-Plus MIMO Modem Router

I'm using Belkin G+ Router Modem with my MAC wirelessly through Air port.(G5 using OSX 10.5.5) All is fine with sites on the internet, however one site inparticular (www.business-opportunity-review.co.uk) is inaccessable.
I've contacted the company website technical help who assure me that it isn't there server, that is down.
Their technical help contacted me, took over my computer by "Log me in" and did some tests including Pinging the site. My connection sees the IP address of the site OK, but does not see the web address. He told me it was the router and to restart it, which I did to no affect.
The problem is sporadic, most times I cannot access the home page. Other times I can get three pages in, before I get the message 'Safari cannot find the server' I've tested it on Firefox, which never sees the site. I've tried it with a PC which doesn't see the site, and I've connected via ethernet to the router, still no joy,I've tried to download the latest firmware for the router, but can't get the easy wizard install to work(Don't know if I'm doing something wrong here)I'm sure the site isn't busy because I've tried it a different times and still get the same result. For every other site though my internet is really fast with no problems(including high security site like internet banking)Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is the MTU and how do I lower it?
    Thanks

  • stegibson Nov 13, 2008

I've tried lowering and highering the MTU, taken it down to the lowest level and taken it up to the highest level. I've turned the Firewall and NAT off and on on the belkin Router page, I've tried the DMZ placing my IP outside the Firewall, but have had no luck. Same problem, any ideas?

Hi,

If I may add, have you tried a reset of the router? Of course this would revert the unit back to factory default and all use settings & configurations would be remove including any possible error causing that particular site to fail.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Belkin F5D7234-4 V5 MODEM LIGHT AND INTERNET LIGHT ARE BLANK. WHEN I RUN A CABLE FROM MY MODEM TOMY COMPUTER, INTERNET WORKS, BUT WHEN I CONNECT THE CABLE FROM THE MOEM TO THE BELKIN WIRELESS ROUTER, NO...

Is this a new router - or should I say did you only have the one computer hooked to the modem until now? Some ISPs use the MAC address of the installed PC to assign the network IP address. Since the Router will have a different MAC address, the modem will not recognize it. ISPs use this as security, but it makes networking impossible. However, most routers have a feature called MAC spoofing, which allows the Router to fake the modem into believing it is the computer originally attached to the modem. On newer routers this is a feature that can be automatically done during the setup wizard. You need to have the original PC hooked to one of the router ports (not WAN or INTERNET) and when the router asks you if you want to use the MAC spoof, say yes.

I have just bought a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router and have got a disk but the problem is can i8 get on xbox live or do i need a modem aswell or is it modem and router together

you have to ring belkin and they will talk you through opening the releveant ports to access x box live. If you dont have a microsoft wireless adaptor (which they say you need) you can use a hard wired connection from another computer by creating a network bridge. either way you have to open the ports on your router.

Adapter wire troubleshooting

Cable modems often don't work with a router unless you do something called cloning your MAC address. The MAC address is a unique number assigned to each device's network connection. Unless the cable modem sees the MAC address of the computer originally used to set up service it often won't connect. Cloning the MAC address in the router gives it the same address as your computer, and that usually gets the connection going.

You'll find the link for cloning the MAC address in the router setup screens. Rather than go through the steps here, I suggest you download the manual for your version from Belkin or look at the copy on the CD that came with the router. I don't know which version of the router you have, so the manual I was looking at may not be exactly the same as yours.

Make sure you have the computer originally used to set up your cable Internet service connected to one of the router's wired ports. Follow the steps in the Alternate Setup section to move through the various screens until you reach the link to change the MAC address, and that's where you'll copy the address from your computer to the router. Once that's done your modem and the router should play nice together, and you'll be back online.

Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!
