Zanussi ZDT6252 fills with water ( but not overflowing - as yet) when not in use, for maybe a week or so. Any help appreciated

Sounds like you have a leaking inlet valve. The best option is to replace it with a new one. It does have overfill protection on it but this may not work if its leaking.
