Question about Projection Televisions

Hi, I have a 26" Matsui LCD flat screen tv and it has a long narrow blue line one third in from the left running vertically. We can live with it but would like to know if it's correctable/fixable.If so approx. how much? Many thanks

    Hi,

thanks for the advice. I took the back off and checked all the connectors that I could find without getting into the 'guts'. I paid particular attention to the circuit board with multiple plugs that I felt might be the main board for the screen.I also vacuumed all over the boards etc. Unfortunately the blue line is still present on this t.v. so that didn't work. Very much appreciate the advice though and enjoyed 'getting stuck in' : )

So is it likely to be the screen or a circuit board. Any idea how much? Are the parts easily available?

NB I don't think it's a 'projection television' just a LCD HD TV

    Thanks Dan,

I'll probably live with it as the TV was bought at auction 'sold as seen' but wasn't switched on at the auction rooms and had a large sticky area on the screen. This was due to an old sheet of protector being left on. The plastic came off easily. This obviously put buyers off as the TV cost £6 UK or $9 inc taxes !! at that price I would be impressed if the viewing area was a thin line and the rest of the 25.99 inches was blue : )

    Thanks again

This can be an indication of a defective LCD panel or just a bad connection to the panel. If the unit is no longer under warranty, open up the back and reseat all of the cables and connectors. Sometimes because of the extremely low level of the signals that are inside the unit, a little dust or dirt can make a questionable connection fail. Update this with your results. If the unit is still under warranty, request warranty service.

It is not a projection, just an LCD. Unfortunately there is no way to determine whether the problem is a logic one or the panel itself. My experience suggests that it is the panel. If so, the replacement panel could easily cost almost as much as a replacement set. Check around in the area for a service shop that works on your make of set and get an estimate on the panel cost.

Sounds like you may have just left one of the wires loose from the red tube. Not likely an issue from the gren tube but you can always cover the top of the lens and let just green shine up. That may help narrow it down also.

Here is more detailed info for you also.....

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Sony KF50WE610 Vertical Blue Lines Across Screen

the vertical blue lines indicate some interference from other electronic gadgets near your tv. it started showing up on my sony grand wega when i installed my wireless modem. i almost ordered a new rear projection lamp costing over $100 but decided to experiment. i first moved my desk computer farther away from the tv then isolated the wireless modem router by placing it inside a small glass - the vertical blue lines became lighter in color so i dedided to find another small glass that fit inside the first glass container then put the router in the double glass - no more blue lines and my wireless modem router still works.
do some deductive thinking to figure out what's messing up your tv and isolate the interference.
good luck!
