Question about Samsung DVD & Blu-Ray Players

6 Answers

I have a Samsung Blu Ray Player, model BD P-1400 that just stopped playing after about 10 min into the show. It turned off and would not come back on, no matter what I did. My disc is stuck inside and I cannot get the Player to do anything. Any suggestions?

    Hi Dan - I am sure it's the power supply. I've done the unplugging routine and checked the fuse - still nothing. Bought it from Amazon 11/28/07. The drive is closed all around, so I can't roll the worm gear to open the disc drawer. Guess I'll have to take it in to be fixed. Thanks.

Does is smells like something burned?

If it's under warranty, well we cannot open the case and look for the fuse since you aint getting any power on that unit because it will void the warranty.

Hi,

Based on your description, a couple of ideas to explore/try:

  • DIY (do-it-yourself) - open the unit but requires a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings;
  • qualified professional - seek the assistance of an authorized service center or your friendly neighborhood electronics tech;
  • warranty - claim, replace or repair.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back if you are considering a DIY, how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If it is in warrenty dont try to open it, avail the warrenty, if it is not, then open the cover you will see that the disk was stucked due to the gear jamming or it has some ciruitary problem which need technical assistance.

IF unplugging the unit for a few minutes does not change the behavior at all, the main power supply has failed. You don't specify how long you have had the unit. If it is under warranty, bring it in for warranty repair and request that they remove the disc for you. If it is not under warranty and you have a multimeter and are comfortable working inside the unit, we may be able to diagnose the problem remotely. Under NO circumstances should you touch the area of the optics assembly as suggested by another posting. This part of the unit is fragile and can be taken out of alignment easily. A bad ribbon cable CAN NOT cause the problem you are seeing.

Please keep me posted.

Thanks,
Dan

Plays dvd, but not blue ray bdp-1400

You could try and update your player's firmware from Samsung. Here is a link http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=BD-P1400&prd_ia_sub_class_cd=P

You will need to download the firmware file and burn it to a cd-rom using your computer's cd burner then put it into the player. You will need to burn it in raw format and might need a burner program to do it. The player will need firmware upgrades often to be able to play the newer blu-ray movies.

I have a Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray Disc Player that will not play Blu-Ray discs rented from BlockBusters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To Date, of all my 100 regular DVD, and approximately 25 owned Blu-Ray...

BD-P1000 Update Solution
The solution that worked for me: I went to www.samsung.com/ca and downloaded the Samsung BD-P1000 player's firmware update to my desktop. When opened, I was directed to"burn" a DVD on my computer. I then inserted the new DVD in my Blu-Ray player. The player automatically checked and confirmed player model number and registration and uploaded information from the DVD and the update was complete. The BD-P1000 then flawlessly played the rented Blu-Ray disc of "The Scorpion King".
Thank You Samsung!
