Question about HP w19 19" LCD Monitor

Black striped down left hand side of display

Hi there

I use an HP Pavilion zd8123ea laptop for making music.

I recently purchased an HP w19 19" TFT display to act as a second display, which I was using to extend my desktop. I plugged it in and everything was fine. I then stupidly pressed the Auto button, which started Auto Config, and then the image on the TFT shifted 1/3 to the right. Now I have 1/3 of the screen totally black and unused, on the left, and then the other 2/3 of the screen show the extension of my desktop. The extension of my desktop is missing the final 1/3 (on the right), which has been shifted off-screen and is now nowhere to be seen!

I have tried messing around with Desktop settings in Control Panel, and been through the menu system on the TFT but I can't get the screen to go back to the way it was. Does anyone have any ideas how I can sort this out?! I am running Windows XP Home.

I have tried further trouvbleshooting, details are as follows:

Laptop -> TFT display

if I extend my desktop onto the second display, I get blackness down the first 1/4 of the screen and the rest is my laptop desktop

If I attach as follows:

Laptop -> LCD TV

I can get the whole of the laptop display to show on the LCD TV - therefore there is not a problem with the laptop VGA output

If I attach as follows:

PC -> TFT display

the setup works fine, I can see the whole of the PC display

Therefore I can only deduce that there is a problem with the settings between the laptop and the TFT display.

I have checked the display properties on the laptop but cannot get the TFT display to show the entire extended desktop when connected to the laptop (i.e. there is always a black section on the first 1/4, left hand side.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

    Hi Skotkolr,

    Yes there is a button marked "Auto" on the display, which I pressed, I think this is auto configure.

    When I go into the menu on the monitor, there is no setting for the size of the screen. There is an option to move the screen position horizontally and vertically, and if I move it all the way across to the left, there is still a 1" black gap.

    I have also tried resetting the monitor (Menu -> Reset) but that doesn't get rid of the black stripe.

    I am convinced it is a problem with the settings between the laptop and the display, as when I use my laptop with my LCD TV (to watch movies etc.) the display is fine.

    Is there anything else I can try, I am almost at the end of my tether!

    Thanks

    Hi Skotkolr, further info - I started the laptop in safe mode and the w19 display was fine, no black mark down the left hand side. It looked exactly the same as the laptop display (it wasn't acting as an extended desktop because I don't believe it can in safe mode). When I restarted the laptop, the problem came back, so it must be something to do with the settings between the laptop and the display, do you have any further ideas?

    Thanks

    Incidentally on the main page for the w19 monitor there is a link here -http://www.fixya.com/support/t779425-hpw... - which seems to point to the same problem, and apparently has 15 solutions - how can you the solutions? Every time I click on them it tries to make me an expert, which I am not - I just want a solution!

OK try setting the laptop display setting to a lower resolution like 1024x768 or lower auto configure may work if you change some of the following
TV settings can mess with the display as well look in the display advanced setting for a tab that might relate to your issues ie displays or monitors

Hi Danny, you haven't been very clear I will assume you pushed the auto configure on the monitor,
I would go into the menu on the monitor and reset the size of the screen if it has a setting for that 1024x768 should fix the problem
let me know what you find as I have never worked with a hp W19 monitor, if nothing else set the monitor to defaults again in the menu and that may get you back to having normal screens.

Another issue is that the monitor you are using is a wide screen so the resolutions will be a little odd like 1440 x 768 etc try different ones like that and re do the auto configure

Black bar on left side of monitor. Can you please tell me how to fix it?

After you have set your resolution on your PC, check for an Auto config setting on your monitor. It should resync to the PC and the black band on the side should disappear.

My Monitor, which had never been used but been in storage for about 1 year, has a 2 inch translucent vertical pink stripe down the left hand side. Rest of image is perfect. Any idea how to make this go...

Check the RGB settings from the monitor panel.... Plus try moving the neck of the monitor left and right a couple of times.... Sometimes, the picture tube displays illegitimate pictures with some twisted cables or so...

HP w19 display is messed up in many ways!

I am wondering if the monitor is close to some other electrical device like a TV. Try hitting the degausing button if it has one. This is like a monitor reset button and removes stray magnetic forces from the monitor.
most monitors do have them amongst their array of buttons or on the rear might also be a pinhole, but be carful incase you touch a live wire

Right half of screen is Black with a White vertical stripe

Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.

Hope this helps!
