Display changed from F to C

My Kenmore 72175 window air conditioner display changed from displaying fahrenheit to centigrade. This happened while running on my generator. How can I change it back to fahrenheit?

Thanks

    Unplugging it did not change it back to fahrenheit.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    Still displaying centigrade.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    I cannot find the remote.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    I read the manual... It says nothing about changing from C to F.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    This is a window air conditioner, not a refrigerator.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    I do not see any pinholes and I have not taken it apart to look for a jumper. I have tried every button combination, both before and after posting this request for help.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    This answer does not qualify as a solution. Apparently no one knows how to change it back to fahrenheit display.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    I have the manual and can set the temperature. The air conditioner works just fine... it just displays the temp setpoint in celsuis.

  • rodratliff Nov 13, 2008

    There is no start button but the one labeled on/off did not change anything.

    I have the manual and can set the temperature. The air conditioner works just fine... it just displays the temp setpoint in celsuis insted of fahrenheit.

Try reconnecting it to the generator and do what you did the time it changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius and see if there is any change. If not, try leaving it unplugged over night to allow it to reset the features back to the way they were when you bought it. This should change it back.

Hi,

I doubt if it there would be a button/key to toggle from Fahrenheit to Centigrade or back. However, since these units are designed to be marketed in different regions, it is very possible that there is a hidden hard switch or even a soft switch. Pls try:

  • check if there is a recessed button or pin hole anywhere on the display, if not would be inside on the logic board or even under the display;
  • press the temp up and down buttons simultaneously and hold for a second or more;
  • try the temp up (or down) button pressed continuously for a couple of seconds;
  • press the temp up (or down) button momentarily and then press again two or three times successively.
Incidentally, I would venture a guess that the change was brought about by the not perfect consistency of the AC frequency when used with a generator.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Help I tried to lower the temp for the air conditioner and now it won't turn off because it's set at 20.5. How do i reset it to 68?

I believe it is set to show Centigrade at the moment. 20.5 deg C is actually 68.9 deg F. So no worries as to the temp being wrong.

Now if you are asking how to set the display to Fahrenheit degrees instead, we will need to know the make and model.

Why is my Kenmore 72012 blinking?

Does the display blink no matter what is displayed? If the display always blinks the same info, what might that be(i.e. error code)? If you are able to cycle through settings and the display changes while blinking, the problem is likely in the control circuitry. The controls have a built in delay to protect the system from abrupt changes. You'll notice this delay, and the blinking display, when you first turn these units on and when changing modes.

On the FAH125p2T the display is reading in celsius instead of fahrenheit

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand you are trying to change the display from Celsius to Fahrenheit. To convert from one to the other and back, press and hold the " TEMP/TIMER" Up arrow and Down arrow buttons together for 3 seconds. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

Reading the wrong tempeature

Centigrade (celcius) metric temperature .
19C = 66F, 20C = 68F 21C= 70F approx.
25C= 77F, 30C = 86F. There should be a setting to change that to Fahrenheit.
