My rom drive is recognized, and will play, rip, and read cds, but will not burn a disc. What could be the problem?

- When I put a blank unformatted DVD disc into the drive the DVD-ROM drive label on my computer changes to 'CD-ROM'. I cannot format the DVD, and i certainly can't write anything to it! Haven't read through the answers here yet but will do now.- gazzamanna

What burning software are you trying to use? Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware from Device Manager

I use burning software: Toast Titanium 6
Hard ware:
Apple Laptop G3 Lombard
Freecom Traveller USB

I have the same problem. I can play cd's and DVD's but I cannot copy anything. I can rip but then it keeps telling me to put in a blank cd, which is already in. I have tried windows and cd creater to burn with. I have reloaded the drivers but nothing works.

i drag all the songs to burn list then i start the burn and then a window comes up and ask for me to place a blank and i do so and a window comes up and says place a blank and the pc will start when it recognizes a cd in place then it will start. and it never goes to work? what am i doing wrong?

Same here.. I burned many CDs at Christmas for friends and now it will only write to a disk and not burn.. I also cannot burn DVDs.. Any advice as to what may be wrong?

my Blank dvd's appear as a "CD Drive" and also shows free space o bites and used space 0 bites in all kind of blank dvd's but it writes vcd's properly ...
