-   I have just installed new cartridges into my printer and when I print anything it comes out pink with blue lines through it. I havn't replaced the cartridges in about 2years and was wondering if this had anything to do with it. I have tried cleaning and aligning the printheads but nothing has helped.-   twinkle-rose
Well if you want to damage your printer use alcohol. But if you want to make it work then pull the cartridge from the printer and run hot water on a couple of paper towels leaving alot of hot water in the towels. Put some thing under them to keep them from staining your counter top and then set the cartridge down onto the hotwater towel and let the hot water melt away the dry ink and in minutes you may be printing again if this is what it is. Be sure and use a dry paper towel to wipe off the ecess wet before you reinstall the cartridge.
Most likely the print head is clogged at the yellow point. Keep doing the cleaning of the print head utility, if doesn't work you may have to open it up and clean it with some alcohol.
If the alcohol washing doesn?t work I find that letting the print heads soak in a strong solution of Windex for a couple of hours works wonders. Also depending on the design of the cartridge it too might be dried out or at least clogged. Switching it out as well might be the first thing to try if you haven?t done so already.
Whenever storing printheads for long time without printing (it is recommended to print a page with all colors every two days, at least one paragraph in each color - cyan, yellow, magenta and black), you can remove the printheads and apply a thin film of bee honey and stick a film of plastic. The honey never dries out, it doesn't form bacteria and never contaminate the printhead. To remove it, just apply little warm water, it will clean up and the printhead will be working in no time.
It is not recommended to store a printhead without exercising the internal pumps once every month or two months, it may clog the internal parts by sitting the ink for long (even without air).
