If you paid $108 to Garmin for a map download you should have received an email with the download detail.

This is fixya technical support, you need to contact the seller customer support instead.

Try to understand, and let us know from where you bought the $108 update, so that we can address you to the right contact.

Thanks.

The map update it is not free. That makes people upset they have to pay for it. However that’s the way things are at present with Garmin and map updates. We’ll leave the pay factor aside for the time being and concentrate on how to make the map update process smooth and easy.
Step 1. Where to get it? Register your Garmin GPS at the Garmin web site. All you need is the unit so you can enter in the serial number that’s physically printed on it.
Once registered you will have the option to purchase the update you need.
Step 2. DVD or download? Get the DVD in the mail. The download takes way too long. Remember, it is a DVD’s worth of information we’re talking about.
Step 3. Install the latest Garmin USB drivers. Grab those from here. It’s a fast install and painless. To note: Windows (and even OS X) will usually automatically install the drivers, but it’s better to get them manually just to be on the safe side.
Step 4. Plug in the GPS to your computer. Step 5. CLOSE apps This is the #1 reason why people have any problem with updating a Garmin GPS. They have a bunch of **** running, such as instant messengers, web browsers and so on. This does nothing but SLOW THE PROCESS DOWN. Whether your using Windows or OS X, close those frickin’ apps and KEEP them closed until the update is completed.
Step 6. Pop in the DVD and follow the instructions. Step 7. Wait. A long time. The update process takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.
For those wondering why it takes so unbelievably long to complete, remember once again we’re talking about a DVD’s worth of data here transferring over USB. Have you ever transferred over 4GB of data over USB? If you have then you know how long it takes.
There many be instances where the updating program appears to lock up. Trust me when I say it’s not. You just have to wait and be patient. It will complete.
I have performed map updates several times on several different Garmin GPS units. It always takes a long time. As long as you have no apps (or as little apps as possible) running and are patient, the update will complete successfully.
The 2009 update to date has been the easiest by far. The updater app did exactly what it was supposed to do and now I enjoy the latest-and-greatest map data set on my c580.
How to report map inaccuracies If while driving you see a road that is marked incorrectly, or the intersection that is labeled wrong, or a business listed that is no longer there or the like, remember the following:
Garmin does not provide the map data.
NAVTEQ does.
If you want to report a map inaccuracy, head over to mapreporter.navteq.com. This is where you report inaccuracies. It’s free and stupidly easy to report map errors there.
So if you ever wondered how you can easily report map issues, there you go. No calling or e-mailing necessary.

Hi,

Initially, pls postback the exact model number. Additionally, if you are using a Window based computer to download/upload the mapupdates, perhaps you can try with your antivirus and/or firewalltemporarily disabled. Incidentally, Have you seen this page? It is for 310/360/370, perhaps something simiolar to your specific model. Based on this, it would seem that you would need to install a new/latest WebUpdater to download updates for your Garmin.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Do i get a free map update for the just purchased Garmin nuvi 3790T How about speed camera.

Garmin provides free online map updates (if available) within 90 days after purchase. A purchase is recorded when the Garmin Nuvi detects a certain travel speed or when the Nuvi is registered at MyGarmin.com

To qualify for free Map updates, register the Garmin Nuvi at MyGarmin.com using serial number and owner name.

A map update is a large download - which can take considerable amounts of time. When updating a Garmin map with a PC one needs at least 5Gb of free space at the C drive.

No access to free map or traffic updates. Plugged in traffic accessory that came with the unit, and it tells me that the accessory is not compatible with the unit. The serial number on the bottom of the...

If the Garmin Nuvi is sold with "life-time updates" for maps & traffic - updates are available for download at MyGarmin.com once they are available.

A "life-time update" is coupled to the serial number of the Garmin unit. If the serial number does not match the box with "life-time updates" on it - it could be the Garmin Nuvi came from another box without "life-time updates".

Without "life-time updates" - maps are available for free within 60 days after purchase. A "purchase" is registered by the Garmin device if it detects a certain speed or when it's registered at MyGarmin.com - meaning the 60 day countdown starts. Without a "life-time update" for traffic - a traffic subscription must be bought for a country & timeframe. (ie a year).

Hi, hav a garmin nuvi. Has Garmap Africa series 2008 March edition. Is it possible to update the SD card via a free download. Tnx

For maps that came with a Garmin GPS - a map can be updated for free within 60 days after purchase. The purchase date is recorded after registering the device at MyGarmin.com or when the GPS detects movement above a certain speed. If the GPS is purchased with lifetime updates - it will be free throughout the lifetime of the Garmin GPS.

Just see what happens when registering the device at MyGarmin.com. A map update will show when there's one available for your Map version.

Trying to find where to register my nuvi 1390

Go to the following website:

https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

You can register yourself as well as your Garmin product. If you have the USB cable that should have come with your GPS unit you can plug one end into your GPS, and the other into your computer. After loading a small program the site will automatically register your unit, and then take you to a site that will allow you the choice of downloading maps, extras for the GPS, and other useful items. If you don't have the cable, you can still manually enter the model and serial numbers. Depending on your model number, you are allowed either one free map update if you register within 90 days of your purchase date, or you might have lifetime updates if your model came with that feature.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in resolving your issue. Should you need further information or assistance please do not hesitate to let us know.

HOW DO I UPDATE MY NEXTAR X3I FOR NEW MAPS

Hi,

If I understood the issue correct you are trying to update the MAPS for your nextar x31 gps devise. Normally these map up dates are usually fee based, as the software is third party. So as the updates are made available, the manufacturers of the GPS devices buy the maps and post them on their websites as available for purchase, or provide the link to the map providers site. The down load procedures are available at the site at the same time.

Most sites will ask for model and serial number, if for some reason you are entitled to a free upgrade this is when you would find out.

Hope this helps

God Bless

Garmin nuvi 750 GPS

There is a serial number associated with your maps and your GPS unit. You will be able to get this serial number from Garmin when you register your software. Mapsource comes with the maps on the same disc. If it is not installed on your computer, it will automatically install.
