My problem is similar to some other posts but not the same.
Occasionally the screen will suddenly go black for 2-3 seconds and then come back, like it has reset itself. I am plugged into the DVI port of the video card. It is worst with videos and when zooming in google earth.

Just installed monitor brand new four days ago. Have tried rebooting.
this problem accure due to faliour of invertor circuit. plz call a hardware engineer or replace the monitor. your monitor is in warrenty so i suggest you to replace it with new one.

disconnect all the cable from the monitor except the power cable .
see if you see any test screen and keep it on ,if the test screen blacks out you monitor is bad ,better buy a new one as usually repairs cud be expensive

Same with mine a couple days ago. I've been told the contacts have oxidized and need to be cleaned. It was going to cost about $80 to fix and no guarantee how long it would last so I just bought a new monitor.
check the warranty online for your screen.. go the the acer support website and look up warranties, and it will ask for a really long number on the back of your screen, and it will tell how long the warranty is good for and what to do with it.

If the power light stays on and the unit works even if for just a moment, then chances are that you either have a cold solder, or a heat problem with some components or your CCF Lamp is starting to fail.
All possibilities require that you open your LCD monitor and perform diagnostics of the components/circuitry inside. This of course would require that you be familiar with components, circuitry, soldering and the use of a VOM.
Cold solder - refers to soldered connections that have lost 100% of their connectivity. When the unit is jarred or after some time of use it looses completely its connection. The corrective measure require that the said cold solder be located and resoldered.
Heat problems with some components - the most often are power capacitors. These are can types rated something like 470uF/16V. When power is applied and heat starts to build up, they start to looses their capacitance and therefore can no longer hold a charge. Most cases, there are physical evidences such as blistering, brownish leakage at the top or at the bottom, swelling or gaps at the X/Y indentation at the top.
CCF Lamp - may involve the backlight or the inverter that powers it. A way to verify this is to shine a flashlight on the instance the screen blinks out at the screen. A faint image of your desktop should be visible. The CCF Lamp is similar to household fluorescent lamp which of course can fail after some time of usage. The inverter is a high frequency high voltage power for the lamp.
Since there are dangerous high voltages inside, extreme care should be practiced when working on exposed components. Should you not be comfortable doing this, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified technician.
