In your computer which is connecting to the Internet through the Linksys router, launch IE and type 192.168.1.1 on the address field. It will then open a window, asking for your username and password. By default, there is no username and the password is admin. Once you're in the router's setup page, click on WIRELESS tab. Then, there is a sub tab called Wireless Security. Click on it and you will see the wireless security enabled in your router.

Hope this helps!

Configuring Wi-Fi Protected Setup

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I want to know how i can make my Linksys Router WRT160N work as access point

Hi,

By default Linksys router behaves as Access point. On some router you have to enable the wireless function.

So the following to configure the router Wireless Access Point

Click the below link
http://192.168.1.1

Now it will ask for username and password

Enter username = ( blank) and password = admin
If you can't login using this credentials then you will have to reset the router

If you logged in . Then click on Wireless > Wireless security

On this screen select

Security Mode : WPA Personal
WPA Algorithm : TKIP
WPA shard Key : "enter a password here"
Group Key Renewal : set to default

Click on save settings. After that restart router .
Now your wireless network is secured and you will have to type the WPA shared key inorder to connect to router when it prompts. You can connect as many devices as you wish since it is a access point

Thanks

Vote me If it helps

I have a linksys wireless usb card and it is not detecting my secured wireless network after configuring it

We need to know the wireless settings on your wireless access-point/router.

Check if the SSID broadcast is enabled on the wireless access-point. If it is disabled, then you have to manually add the SSID to the wireless adapter and make sure the wireless security such as WEP or WPA keys are correct.

You may also enable SSID broadcast so that the wireless adapter will detect your wireless network.

Also, you may try to change the wireless channel to 6 or 11.

Connectivity issue router to panassonic wireless camera

If your camera does not support encryption protection then that is a problem beause it allows unauthorised people to access your wireless access point, Internet and computers on your LAN.
There is a couple of things you can do but it it is not perfect.
1. Change youe SSID to something other that the default name.
2. Make sure you put a password on your admin setup
3. Turn off SSID broadcast.
4. Set up MAC address filtering on your access point and only allow MAC address of only your devices/wireless adapter cards to communicate with your wireless access point.

The UPnP refers to plug & play USB connection for transferring images to the computer.

The best way to avoid not having to turn off encryption is to transfer your photos by the camera cable or remove the memory card and insert it into a USB memory card reader and connect it to your computer.

you have to go into the routers settings, by typing it's ip address (refer to manual) in your internet browser and look for DHCP and make sure that it is enabled to automatically assign both your pcs an ip address. This must be done using a lan RJ45 cable that was supplied; first before going wireless. Next go to each pc and either use the wireless network setup wizard or go to your wireless network connections (in control panel>network connections) and right click on the connection(this is not the lan connection icon, make sure you choose your wireless icon) and select properties, then click the internet protocol line TCP/IP and again click properties. make sure that 'Obtain IP address automatically is ticked and click ok. Your pcs may need a restart and should find the router will be seen in your found connections, click connect and your away
