maybe you need to change the INPUT to Tuner, It may be on an AV setting? perhaps they have the tuner "Disabled" and they were only used as "Monitors" ? You may need an antenna connected first before it locks in.?
techs call this a cold or a bad solder connection on the output transistor most likely, tap on it here and there when it happens on the bottom and side of tv, if sound comes in then stops again then it would be a loose connection due to heat over time, if your inclined u can be fixed it, if bad chip it would play first then shut off, or if u have a cable box or rca outputs on tv use them on an amp to get sound, that would bypass amp output and u will use the preamp section which is a different circuit, firstname.lastname@example.org
No picture but sound can mainly be of two problems, most of the times it is caused by a faulty vertical deflection ic, you can diagnose this by slightly increasing the screen voltage by turning the screen control on the LOT, a horizontal line will appear if the vertical ic is shot, and the other problem is the CRT base, but this is less common for shot base won't go off at once, it will show picture faded in the beginning. Now another problem could be the horizontal output transistor, if the tv has a high power sound output, the sound power supply will come from smps itself instead of from LOT, check that too, to confirm this, check if the CRT filament is glowing. Good luck.
If the sound on your DLP TV is out of sync with your picture and the TV is not connected to a home theater system, a Samsung technician can adjust the sound sync function on the TV so that the sound and picture are in sync.
To arrange a service call to adjust the sound sync function, call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864).
I am not familar with that particular set, but this is what I would check (assuming you don't have a surround sound system hooked up to it as it would sound like a tuner problem otherwise). If you have external Audio/Video jacks with cables hooked up to the Direct TV box, move the video cable and see if you lose video when it is jiggled. If so, you either have a bad cable or connection/connector. When you say you have to turn the TV off for about 30 minutes, do you leave the directTV box on? If so, then the problem seems to be with the TV. Otherwise, maybe the direct TV box is at fault -- leave the TV on and turn off the cable box for a half hour and try it again. You have a few possibilities here, good luck.
