Had a very similar problem on a DSP-A1092, found to be the temperature sensor on the heatsink open circuit. I fitted a variable resistor to mine and adjusted it to just below the specified resistance of the temp sensor (I had the service manual at the time). Permanently cured the fault. As the amp never ran hot,it was not a problem if well ventilated. Of course it could also be shorted speaker wires at any of the outputs too.
volume levels on all channels varies depending on what dsp mode you are using. to be able to determine the level you desire, just chnge the level setting of those channels. either you do it by remote control or the front panel of the amp. try setting the dsp mode on disco and you should hear higher vol levels on all channels. Do not expect as well all channels to produce same vol levels as your effects speakers may not be able handle higher power levels.
if you wanted to use your receiver as your controller and source then try to find out the receivber has got a bridge (jumper) between the pre-amp stage and the power amp stage. if your receiver does not have that, then you can just connect your receiver tape record out to one of your DSP inputs. subwoofers, the DSP has got a sub woofer out connector. you can use that (RCA type) to your sub woofers. put in series because DSP has got only one output for sub. or, you can connect your subs directly to the mains speakers, parallel connections. maybe one sub to your left and the other to your right channel.
