On the back of the drive, you can see a set of jumpers next to the IDE connector, You should see a jumper already there. From the right, the first 2 pins are for the master drive (MA), the next 2 pins are for the Slave (SL) settings, and the 3rd set of pins are for Cable select (CS). Above the pins you will see the marking that are in parentheses here.

If it is the only CD/DVD drive, you need to set it as MA (master)
If it is a second CD/DVD drive, you need to set it as SL (slave)
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hi david,

Lets get you up and running.

Its on the back of the dvd burner so you have to take it out of the pc to really get a good look at it. it will be really close to the where you connect the power wire and the IDE cable (flat pc cable) .

you can see a picture of them here (although your model will be a little different)

It is possible that there are just little metal spikes (looks kinda like a plug) and no jumpers in sight. In that case you have to get a jumper from somewhere, i recommend a old hard drive, from a friend etc because they only sell in bulk and you don't need 300 jumpers.

Once you find what your looking for, there will be a small diagram right next to them that shows you how to set the jumpers.

I hope this helps you.

oh and the jumpers are the middle set of spikes and the black thing covering the two (of the six) is the jumper.

I installed the new cd/dvd driver, but the compter won't install it.

If this is the only drive on your PC you have to make sure that you have set up the jumper to master. the jumper is located in the back of the drive. you must also install the driver for the drive to work properly.

My lg dvd-rw is not detected but has a power in it

Disconnect the "data" and "power" cables from the drive.
Remove the drive.
Look at the labels on the "back".
You should see some pairs of gold-coloured pins:
MA(ster)
SL(ave)
C(able)S(elect)

Move the small jumper to the 'CS' position.
Reinsert the drive.
Reconnect the "data" and "power" cables.
Restart your computer.
Now, it should be detected.

If not, move that small jumper to 'MA', and try again.

If that still fails, move the small jumper to 'SL' and try again.

Newly installed LG DVD drive not playing DVDs

Ok some where on the DVD drive ther is a diagram of those 6 pins and the jumper. Or if you look on the bottom and the top of the drive you may see 3 abbreviations as follow MA, SL, CS. Place the jumper verticle on the pins that are directly above or below CS. That refers to those pins for the jumper to be on for the drive to be set to Cable Select mode. Cable Select means whatever part of the cable the drive is on it will automatically set the drive to Master or Slave.
