Many of the newer furnaces don't have a standing pilot. look to see if you have a gas valve with a knob on top that says off pilot and on. look to see if a tube the size of a pencil comes out of the valve and goes down by one of the burners, look to see if there is a little gold piece of metal tubing protruding down to the opening of the larger tube . that is where you place the match. i prefer to use a grill lighter. safer and positive flame. turn knob to off wait 5 minutes for any gas to disipate. be sure your incoming gas valves are all open . usually at the meter and one at the furnace. usually the handle is in line with the pipe when open. from the off position, turn the knob on the furnace gas valve to pilot position and push down on it as you turn. this lets gas flow to the pilot tube by the burner where you have you flame starter lit and waiting. once pilot lights hold down on button for 3 minutes or less. longer is better to be sure the thermocouple senses flame . then gently release the downward pressure and the pilot should stay lit and you gently turn knob to on. if pilot goes out you may have a bad thermocouple. be especially careful if its lp or propane as that gas does not disipate like natural gas and can virtually lay on the floor till ignited. also consider having the heat exchanger checked by a pro with a carbon monoxide detector. they do crack after a few years and can be deadly when they do. good luck

Carrier weathermaker sx (model 58sx040-cc power vent motor and gas velve cylanoid are kicking in and out, do you know what i can do to fix this problem ??

I believe this is the furnace with a spark to light the pilot light. If so the best advice I can give is to replace the whole pilot assembly. There is a very old style flame sensor in there that is not serviceable. This has driven many a technician around the bend.

**NOTE: It is a real pain to get out, and back in. You need to take off the fire box cover and the panel underneath it to get it out. You also need to take the pilot tube off the gas valve. This may be something that you want to call a service tech for. It could be a little tricky and because you are dealing with gas, you want to make sure that it is put together correctly and safely.

I have a Carrier Infinity 96 gas furnace with no heat

That means that the furnace is throwing a code to trouble shoot whats wrong. Most of the time, furnaces will have a code list on the inside of the door cover to explain what each code means, some of them don't. Its hard to say what it could be without knowing where to start. However, answering a few questions with someone knowledgeable over the phone if possible could help speed things up, but it would involve you being at the furnace and seeing what happens before it throws the code. If you do have a code list, this would help tremendously.

Having problems with Carrier 58RAV furnace. Goes through the motions, but gas never turns on. I think it is a problem with the LPGS. Please advise. Thanks

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Gas heater won't ignite

I agree. Either the pilot flame is dirty and is not making good contact to heat up the bi metal strip on the pilot assembly, or the pilot assembly is defective. 90% of the time if you clean the pilot orfice and the pilot burner it will take care of the problem

The pilot does not light in the furnace

I assume that this is a rather old unit if it still has a pilot light. If the pilot will not stay lit, genrally the thermocouple is the culprit, however it could be the gas valve as well.

There is a small tube that comes off the inducer for cracks or water. If there are cracks then the pressure switch that it is attached to may not be closing all of the time. Also sometimes you can get water in that tubing which will also cause the pressure switch to not close. If thats the case shorten the tube so there is no low droop in it where water can collect. Another thing that I would do is disconnect the tube at the indicer, take a straightened out paper clip or stiff wire and poke it in the nipple on the inducer to make sure it is clear too. Let me know if any of these work. There may be other things we can do.

My gas furnace that came with the Mobile Home I just purchased will not ignite the Pilot Lite. All valves from tank open, followed instructions. No Spark

Try lighting all other gas appliances first. On a new setup air in the lines between the tank and the furnace takes time to bleed out before the gas reaches the pilot light.

Carrier Gas Furnace

There is no pilot light, its electronic start now.
like your stove should be.
you can trigger the furnace by shorting out the correct combo on the thermostat but not advised unless you know the right ones.
be sure the power is on the the transformer that provides power to the thermostat.
though that may be contained within the furnace now days.
just check your fuse box and call a tech.
