Generic problem for all PC Laptops

Can't play cd or read files on my lap top

can anyone help me i try playing cd or read files on my lap top cd drive it wont read read eny of the cds but it would let met play dvd i tried every solution i can think of i even tried every site i can find on the internet so far no solution need some help plz

Theres a number of things u can try:

1. system restore your laptop back to a date right before it stopped working.
2. take the cd drive out and then put it back in, then restart.
3. update new drivers for the cd drive
4. ensure your device is "enabled" under your hardware setting within control panel.
