Question about Philips 9P5534C 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Screen now has 3 small boxes in middle - one red, one green, one white

I have had this set with no problems for about 8 years. About 6 months ago when I would turn the TV on it would start going in and out on the sides. As time went by it took longer and longer for the set to stay on. It was almost like an hour glass effect. Then one day there was just three small boxes in the middle of a black screen - one red, one green, and one white. I know it will probably cost more to fix than it is worth but I really do like the TV and cannot afford to buy a new big screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!!

51F59A red screen all the time

1. entire grill below front screen must come off (usually held in place by screws in back on either side.)

2. locate and remove inspection plate dead center behind it.

3. Locate small black plastic block with 6 black controls built in; three (look carefully) left to right are focus--DO NOT TOUCH THOSE.

The other three are Screens and will be marked with tiny letters r g b (red, green, blue) and green is always middle.

Locate the red screen (not FOCUS).

With set on adjust red down just slightly(usually less than 1/8 turn.

Tv turns on but after like five minutes the screen turns red

This model had problems with bad picture tubes--it uses three--a red, green, and blue tube.

If one of the tubes is bad it most likely will not be worth repairing as the tubes are only available on a rebuild basis--very expensive.

v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Here is what you need to do.

1.) You need to remove the entire plastic piece below the front of the screen. You most likely will find 3 screws on either side in back that you have to remove.

2.) The grill will not come out easy, pull from one side and then when it starts to come loose from the other side(there are several plastic pegs that hold it in.) Then from the bottom pull out( most of these sets have square plastic tabs at the top that tuck in.)

3.) With the grill removed locate the inspection plate behind it (it usually has 6 screws.) You will have to tilt the grill to the left and on its side as several cables are connected to it--they are held in place with trash bag like ties that you can release to get some room.

4.) With the inspection plate removed you will see a fairly small (about 3 inch square) BLACK PLASTIC BLOCK WITH SIX CONTROLS-usually they are marked with whiteout so someone can tell if they have been adjusted.

5.) You need to look very close at the block with a flashlight----usually the top three controls are FOCUS--don't touch those.
The lower three are usually marked Screen and if you look very close you will see b, g, r(blue green red)

6.)Usually the GREEN will be in the middle.

7.) Once you locate theRED screen control have the set on and turn it down--if the set is shutting down you may have only a few seconds to try to turn it down---usually to the left with the Screen control.

8.) Best way to do this if the set is on is on a video input clip_image001.gif with nothing connected--you turn the red down until the set stays on and then very slowly turn it up until you see a slightly red screen with or without diagonal trace lines----turn it down slowly until the red screen and trace lines just disappear.

Let me know if you get it to work--Like I said if it is shutting down you may have to slowly turn the screen down a few times to get it to stay on.

If this works you may only be buying yourself some time as if the tube is the problem it will come back again--I have seen many where adjusting let the set work for many months or even years.

If this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Mitsubishi WS55513 480i Signal no Color

That may be a TV problem but can also be a Cable box problem.Do you have any other 480i signals hooked to the TV?
Also most Comcast HD boxes can be set to output SD signals at 480p which may solve the problem. Usually get to the setting by turning the cable box off and pressing menu on the box, not remote.
It should display a different menu on the tv screen, arrow down to 4X3 overide then arrow right and try 480p.

Sony KP-511HW40 fleshing with green color and shuts off

this is a common fault adjust the little black box in front behind the small wooden cover. you will see 6 controls don't adjust any of the top 3 only the bottom knobs 1 for each color. slowly back the control counterclockwise turn the set on and wait untill it shows a picture, slowly adjust the control for the color in question utill the color balance is correct- black and white with the color setting turned down all the way with the user menu when balance is ok you are all set.. turn the color back up with user control. rtepeat process if needed.

you need a green CRT thats whay you have the white kind of concave lines with the green screen. You can try adjusting the green screen control but you need anew CRT ( tube) the speaker cover has two plastic plugs that get removed on the lower edge os the grille which covers the two screws that hold the grille on. If you need more assistancr or where to get a green CRT let me know as I have a link that has some green and red Tubes for your model.

Light green and pink spots on my hd tv!!!

Hi--Bought my panasonic pt-52lcx65 on sale for $2200 in 8/05. Replaced the lamp for about $300 in 1/08, just prior to Superbowl. Admittedly, this was to be expected after family members watched lots of tv over 30 months. However, two months later the blue spot emerged in 3/08, and red spot emerged 5/08. Set looks decorated by a Andy Warhol or Van Gogh wannabe. I'm looking for a fix it solution. Dr. Bob Heiliger, Lebanon, OH.

Red , Green And Blue.

Heres the best way to set a phillips screen controls. Go into the picture controls and set picture or contrast to roughly 75%, then set brightness to 50% and then set the color level completely off. Then adjust the screen with the 3 color controls untill you recieve the best black and white picture as possible. If you are unable to achieve a good black and white picture change the coolant in the green and blue tubes. But if you can get a good black and white picture stop there then turn your color level back up and the picture should be correct. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Problems with green arching lines

yes there is a small black box with 6 controls on it, take off the bottom front of the tv, behind that you should find a black piece of plastic you can remove by taking out 2 more screws. the black box should be in the upper i don't remember if the top 3 are the screen controls or the focus controls. the rows should be labled, you are looking for the screen control row. the green control is the middle one. you can try turning down the control till you no longer see the green lines. try adjusting in a dark room, it will be easier to see the lines & when they are gone. if you problem is not solved by trying this, then i agree with your tech & the green tube is bad. good luck.
