Question about Bose Wave Radio

1 Answer

75 ohm antenna connection ''disappeared''

My model AWRC-1G works fine except no antenna.
1: How do I open the case? I removed the 3 obvious screws but wouldn't open.
2: I assume when I get inside the wiring would be obvious or do I need a schematic.

Thanks ..Bob

I have the same problem with my AWRC-1P.  I'm trying to get inside to look at a fuse.  I removed the two screws in the back and the one on the inside of the cd deck, but when I lift up from the back there still seems to be something on the inside that's holding the front down.

My antenna connector came off as well. After removing the two screw fron the back (on top), open the CD cover and remove the large screw at the front of the compartment. Now flip the unit over with the front of unit toward you. Insert a small flat screw driver between the cover and the botom on either side. There are two large tabs (either side) on the botom. pry away and up. Flip over and remove the cover. Careful of the ribbon cable inside, it is long enough to lift and flip the cover.

Am fm reception bad

FM reception is weak

What to do

• Extend the power cord as much as possible. The FM antenna is in the power cord.

• Move the power cord to adjust the FM antenna

• If you still have problems with FM reception, you may need an external antenna.

* Call Bose®Customer Service to request one.

The external antenna on your radio is a coax (round) design It needs an adaptor and an antenna which are cheap.

Easy to make, radio shack "F" connector 90 degrees or straight, to 300 ohm wire connections. Attatch a 300 ohm flat ribbon antenna cable to those two screws and plug into radio and see how your reception is. You will need to position the antenna wires to get best reception. I have hid them in back of paintings and so on.

Cheapest solution next to putting an extension cord on radio power cord.

I am having very poor FM reception with my Bose Radio wave system. Is there an external antenna that can be attached?

The power cord is the antenna and it should be stretched out straight for best possible reception. You could experiment with re-orienting the Bose, too.

There is a threaded 75-ohm coaxial FM External connector. You could probably get a compatible FM antenna at an electronics store.

After a few months, the CD player stopped working. It doesn't spin, and it shows "no" in the clock display

Each CD Player has a potentiometer to adjust the laser assembly alignment. The T609t CD player has a tiny pot of 2000 Ohms (2K) about 1/8 x 1/8 of an inch on a tiny printed circuit board right under the laser assembly. I tried adjusting its value with no success. The wiper was not making contact with the carbon layer below it. I removed it and soldered in 2 wires of 6 inches to work out of the box. I attached at the end of the 2 wires a small printed circuit board of 1/2 x1/2 inch to solder a new pot of 1000 Ohms in series with 50 Ohms resistor. I started increasing the pot value until about 700 Ohms and immediately the Player showed 01 on the display and started to play IL DIVO songs. Obviously after each new setting of the pot I had to repeat the same routine: Power off, power on, hit Play, see No CD message on the display until I found the right initial value on the pot. I still had to tweek it up toward 750 Ohms because it was skipping a bit of song number 8. It is working fine now.
I taped my mod, tucked it in the box and closed the whole thing until the next time it will go out of alignment.
The pot I am using is bigger (3/8x3/8x1/4) it takes 44 turns of 180 deg to sweep it from 0 to 1000 Ohms. The old pot is swept from 0 to 2000 Ohms in one turn of 120 deg. The 50 Ohms resistor was for safety in case I hit 0 Ohms on the pot. I kept it in the mod in case I want to hook a scope.
Cheers
Peter

Would like to switch off clock light, esp at night, or even permanently

Proceed at your own discretion, this will void your warranty. This worked with my Model 3 clock radio:

1)Remove the four corner screws on the back panel with a long phillips screwdriver.

    2) Do not remove the two other screws on the back panel.

3)Gently pull the front panel forward, sliding it out of the wooden case leaving the back panel in place. You can pull of the front panel just free of the case and lay it flat before the connected wires are taught.

4)Unplug the 7 wire harness leading to the back of the clock.

5)Separate the brown wire from between the black and red wires to make room to cut, or modify it.

6)The brown wire is the lead wire to the LED light on the clock. To permanently disable the light, cut the brown wire. Better yet, install a switch in line with the brown wire, which I have not attempted yet and is not covered in this fixya.

Good luck, I have always loved this radio except for the pesky light keeping me up at night.

Top popped off.

I just removed the cover from my wave radio. There are 3 screws that hold the top cover on. Two are exposed and in the rear of the unit and the other is under the CD player lid.

To replace the cover find the two tabs in the front on the bottom cover. Slide the top on and using a screwdriver carefully pry back the front of the top cover so that the two tabs slip by and move into place. Then open up the CD player cover and make sure the spindle fits through the hole in the top cover. Push down and replace the screws.

I didnt remove the ribbon cable so you will have to check on how to refit the connector.
