Question about Whirlpool Dryers

Open Question

My dryer (whirlpool YLEW0050PQ 2) just stopped working. The power light will not come on when I push the power button. I have the top off and found that the power does turn on when I push the power button (using an amp metre) but the light doesn't and the dryer will not run. Any suggestions.

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer will not spin

Since your dryer is "new" it is under warranty. I will explain the possible reasons why it will not spin. Then you can decide whether to make the warranty call or not.

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:

Belt
Motor
Door switch
Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

SOURCE: WHIRLPOOL dryer model JLDE8300N1 WORKED FINE,

Sounds like something not leting the motor turn. Perhaps something in the fan i've seen pencils
nails or almost anything . Check for frozen rollers or belt pully. Last check motor , the bearing may be bad. Sounds like may be motor. Hope this helps

THERE IS POWER TO DRYER BUT WHEN YOU PUSH THE CONTROL BUTTON NOTHING LIGHTS UP AND DRYER WILL NOT TURN ON.BEFORE THIS PROBLEM THE DRYER OCCASIONALLY WOULD HAVE LIGHTS ON A DIFF. SETTING THEN THE ONE IT WAS...

Most likely this is a Console Electronics issue. You can search around for information regarding this. You will want to get the tech sheet, typically found under the top of the unit, to begin diagnostics. If it isn't on the unit, then an online search might help you get the information.

Dryer wont start - no lights

Dryer door does not think it is closed. There is a sensor on the top of the door that is probably not making contact with the door. Trying pushing the top part of the door and holding it then press the start button.. if the unit starts running then you know what it is. I just had one of these dryers delivered today and had to find out about this by myself tonight!!

OK I had this issue as well. I ended up opeing up the dryer and cleaning all the connections. After that it came right back up. It would start with the displaying going haywire. Easy fix and saves you a tech coming out.
1. Take off lid
2. open up the buttons with 2 screws in back
3. Pull electric wire connection and blow out.
4. unscrew 2 screws top front. Covered by rubber stops
5. Lift Lid and blow out. Sensor on the left top.

Worked for me.
