Hi, thanks for the prompt response. This idea sounds great, but I broke the old switch clip retainer while getting it out trying to remove it from the top. I have a new switch, but do I need to remove the cabinet top to put it in or is there a trick to installing it from the top?

To add a comment to this saga I installed the new switch without bending any hinge arm and it is now a perfect "clicky" working switch. This washer has two switch types; a switch which fits the Whirlpool LSB6300PW (0) located on the right side of the cabinet and a diffferent style switch located on the left side for models LSB6300PW 1 to 3: mine is an unlisted 2. I think the hinge arm on the (0) model can be bent, but not the others. Nor can mine be easily bent nor is it subject to bending though use. To remove the console I just tilted the washer forward after unplugging it and remove the posidrive screws located on the bottom right and left rear corners of the console. There are two hex screws going through plastic tabs on the top right and left rear corners of the console which also need to be removed. The console can now be easily lifted up and out of the way.

I broke the old, defective (I feel better now) switch by not unscrewing the green ground wire connection and by yanking the switch straight up while lid was closed. The switch needs to be removed by tilting the switch up in the back and then sliding it towards the rear of the machine with the lid open. To install the switch just reverse the procedure. The switch just drops into place and sort of "floats" in the slot.

I couldn't find any procedure online detailing how to remove the console or switch so I hope ths may be of help to someone else. If your switch doesn't "click" on these machine just go ahead and order one in advance. The switch is less than $15. If I didn't have to research the procedure I could have replaced the switch in ten minutes. Whirlpool has made these later model maachines much more repair friendly.

If you lift andclose the lid do you hear "clicking" noise??? i bet not. simple repair, lift the lid and with a hollow shafted screwdriver(1/4in nutdriver or similliar hollow shaft implement)you fell with your hand the bottom half of the left side lid hinge. as you open and close the lid you can fell the opposing end of hinge under the top no need to dissasemble you can fell it right there. when you find it simply slip the hollow ended shaft over the hinge and apply pressure towardds the rear of unit. While doing this the top will want to close( your pushing against the hinge).. after appling slight pressure youll bend it slightly, enough to activet the lid switch mounted to the rear of the main lid assy.

How to find out if belt needs replacement on a whirlpool WTW4800X02

Does it agitate? That is does it spin back and forth during the wash cycle ok? The agitate and spin are through the same drive belt, so if it does one and not the other its probably not a belt or motor issue. When it gets to the spin cycle does it try to spin, do you hear the motor or anything run or the drum try to spin?

Agitator stops while in spin cycle

Assuming that this is a basic Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain washer, the agitator is supposed to stop during the spin cycle.

Please see the following Whirlpool installation and service manual for top load machines.

If you look at the description of how the transmission works, there is an "Agitate Cam" that lifts the "Agitate Gear" out of contact with the main "Agitate Rack" when the machine goes into spin mode$FILE/L-55.pdf

I have found though that because of the friction between the agitate gear and main drive shaft, including the oil itself, the agitator may move while in spin mode.

Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.

Won't Agitate

If you can hear the motor during the agitate cycle, the the transmission has stripped gears.
