Cannot copy large files onto my WD passport

I am attempting to create a movie in iMovie. I have downloaded raw footage into iMovie. I am trying to now copy the dv files onto my hard drive (WD Passport, 120 gb) I have about 84 gb available. One of the video files is just over 5 gb. But every time I try to copy it to the hard drive, I receive an unexpected error, (error code 0). I have tried various ways of saving it to the drive with no success. The video files are now stored on a Mac, G5.

Your drive is probably in FAT32 format.  FAT32 has a 4GB file limit that is why your 5GB movie isn't saving.  You will have to format the drive in Mac OS file format (HFS) using Disk Utility.
Unfortunately once its in Mac format the drive will not be recognized by windows PCs.  What I do is have a program called macdrive installed on my windows computers so that they can access mac format hard drives.
i hope this helps!

Try to copy the file using Ultracopier for Mac and Teracopy for windows.
if still having problem, try to move the file by LAN transfer to a Windows Desktop or laptop. install Teracopy, then transfer the file to your portable drive using Teracopy.
Ultracopier and Teracopy is use to transfer large file.

My WD My Passport external Hard Drive ! TB formatted for Mac is not reading my files

A Windows PC computer will not read files on the WD hard drive that has been formatted on a MAC.
The fix.
Copy your photos onto the MAC computer then remove the WD hard drive and connect it to your Windows PC and format the WD hard drive in FAT32 file system.
After formatting has been completed remove the WD hard disk and connect it to the MAC computer. The MAC can read and write to a Windows FAT32 formated hard disk. You can now copy the photos from the MAC to the WD hard disk. When copying is complete, remove the WD hard drive and connect the WD hard drive to your Windows PC and you can now copy the photo from the WD hard disk to your Windows PC.

I have a wd used on a mac and would like to use it on a eepc as well, but it is not working...I can't open it on the eepc

The disk-drive might be formatted for usage _only_ with Mac OS X.
Copy all the files from it to your Mac's disk-drive.
Move the Passport to any PC, and "format" the disk for use by Windows.
Move the Passport to your Mac, and copy all the "saved" files back onto the Passport.
Move the Passport to your EEPC, and you should be able to use it, and to see the filenames that you copied from your Mac.

Transfered 180gb of movies from mu wd 2 another hard drive now lost my movies on mine but the memory shows there still there

> now lost my movies on mine

I presume that you deleted those files from your 'C:' drive.

> memory shows they're still there

Copy the files from the external drive back to your 'C:' drive.

I have a WD 1tb external hard drive that is a few months old. I use it mostly for storing video footage of holidays, movies from friends and family or downloaded, pictures and tv shows that I have...

Try copying one episode of your tv shows to your computer's internal hard drive (lets say put it on your desktop) and see if it is the same result. By the way, what is the extension of those tv show files? are they avi, mp4 or mkv? Are the extension of the those files the same with your movie files? Normally, movie files are avi ( divx or xvid) which can be easily played by wndws media player or vlc. If it plays after copying one to your internal hard drive, then erase the one from your WD and recopy it from your internal hard drive. If that works, then just do the same on the othe tv show files. If it still the same result after copying onto your desktop, then just uninstall and reinstall vlc/divx and the codecs. Let me know if these procedures works.

I got a 500 western digitial passport. I have NO idea what it is for or how to use it? It has a usp port on it to plug into comuter, but where do I go then with it and what does it do?

When you connect the Waetern Digital USB hard drive into the USB port of your computer, the computer will detect it as an external hard drive. You treat it just like any hard drive on your computer. You can create folders and copy files to and from this external hard drive.
The main use for these drives is to back up your data that is stored on your computer's hard drive/s so if the computer's hard drive fails you still have a backup of your data files etc.
You can also use the drive to copy files to the external hard drive and take it with you to another computer (a friend's) to download files or copy files to their computer.
The files can be anything, movie, music, photos, etc.

Help to backup full computer programs & docs with WD Passport 160

Try going to the "Computer" icon and look for the external drive. Open the ext. drive folder and look for the InstallSeagateManager icon, the Application one. Double-click on it and it will allow you to install the software to do a backup on your new computer. First thing you should see is the Language Selection screen. I think you can take it from there!

No space error

This is due to the file transfer limitations bound by the file format FAT32 (no files larger than 4GB and no folders that contain more than 1000 files). Try formatting the drive to NTFS.

Can't load a 13 gig avi file onto wd drive with 90 gigs free

Typically this is because there aren't large enough fragments to load. Run defrag several times and try again. You might also run the cleanup program and remove any temporary files, temporary internet files and anything in your waste basket before you run defrag.

Please let me know how this turns out.
