If you are trying to put another hardrive into your existing pc I could explain but you if would like something more visual then there is a tutorial here

its simple really since the computer auto detects the new hardrive. the hardest part are the jumpers on the back of the hardrive. You see one hardrive has to be set to Master and the other has to be set to slave. the hardrives can connect to the IDE cable (the big flat cable inside your pc) in any order but they cannot be both set to master. The jumpers are easy to switch and the hardrive itself will have a diagram right next to the jumpers to show you how to move the jumpers to make the selection.

its a great idea to have two drives in your pc in case something happens to the first, but i always recommend a hard backup (cd/dvd).

Emachine come up where it ask for me to hit f10 or f2 but it wont do anything. My keyboard or the mouse wont work. My emachine is a w3050. Looking for a diagram of how to hook hardrive cd and just to see...

Are you using a wireless mouse or keyboard? If so try using one that you plug in. As for the cd rom and hard drive all you need is one cable for each device hooked to seperate connectors on the motherboard. Ususally the hard drive will be sata which is a red cable and can only go onto one connector on the motherboard. the cdrom is an ide cable(grey usually) and there is a seperate connector for that on the mainboard.

Motherboard diagram

A Computer Motherboard Diagram motherboard-diagram-01.jpg Once you know what you are looking at, you can recognize the components on any motherboard layout. A computer motherboard diagram is very useful for when you need to replace motherboard, do motherboard upgrades, troubleshoot motherboard, or build your own computer.
  1. PCI Slot - This board has 2 PCI slots. These can be used for components such as Ethernet cards, sound cards, and modems.
  2. PCI-E 16x Slot - There are 2 of them on this motherboard diagram, both are blue. These are used for your graphics card. With two of them onboard, you can run 2 graphics cards in SLI. You would only need this if you are a gamer, or working with high end video / graphics editing. These are the 16x speed versions, which are currently the fastest.
  3. PCI-E 1x Slot - Single slot - In the PCIe 1.x generation, each lane (1x) carries 250 MB/s compared to 133 MB/s for the PCI slots. These can be used for expansion cards such as Sound Cards, or Ethernet Cards.
  4. Northbridge - This is the Northbridge for this motherboard. This allows communication between the CPU and the system memory and PCI-E slots.
  5. ATX 12V 2X and 4 Pin Power Connection Power Connection - This is one of two power connections that supply power to the motherboard. This connection will come from your Power Supply.
  6. CPU-Fan Connection - This is where your CPU fan will connect. Using this connection over one from your power supply will allow the motherboard to control the speed of your fan, based on the CPU temperature.
  7. Socket - This is where your CPU will plug in. The orange bracket that is surrounding it is used for high end heat sinks. It helps to support the weight of the heat sink.
  8. Memory Slots - These are the slots for your RAM. Most boards will have 4 slots, but some will only have 2. The color coding you see on the motherboard diagram is used to match up RAM for Dual-Channel. Using them this way will give your memory a speed boost.
  9. ATX Power Connector - This is the second of two power connections. This is the main power connection for the motherboard, and comes from the Power Supply.
  10. IDE Connection - The IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is the connection for your hard drive or CD / DVD drive. Most drives today come with SATA connections, so you may not use this.
  11. Southbridge - This is the controller for components such as the PCI slots, onboard audio, and USB connections.
  12. SATA Connections - These are 4 of the 6 SATA connections on the motherboard. These will be used for hard drives, and CD / DVD drives.
  13. Front Panel Connections - this is where you will hook in the connections from your case. These are mostly the different lights on your case, such as power on, hard drive activity etc.
  14. FDD Connection - The FDD is the Floppy Disk controller. If you have a floppy disk drive in your computer, this is where you will hook it up.
  15. External USB Connections - This is where you will plug in external USB connections for your case or USB bracket.
  16. CMOS battery - This is the motherboard's battery. This is used to allow the CMOS to keep its settings.

I was installing a dvd drive, unhooked main power supply in computer, now when I turn on computer it says it needs a systems reboot disc can you help

The computer can't see the hard drive. IF the hard drive is on the same IDE ribbon as the DVD then you have a jumper problem. You need to look at the old cdrom if there was one and jumper new one the same as old one. (Master, slave or cable select) Also while you were digging around inside your computer did you pull the IDE ribbon to hard drive loose from the drive or the motherboard? Are the power connectors still hooked up? Every hard drive ribbon can have one slave and one master drive. Your hard drive should be the master and the cdrom the slave. Some systems are now set to "cable select" that means that the hard drive ribbon has a master connector and a slave connector and that the device (hard drive or cdrom) becomes a master if connected to one connector or a slave if hooked to the other one. If you go into your bios setup when you turn on the computer you should be able to look an see which of the drives or cdroms is hooked up as master or slave. Some will display this information during bootup posting.

Installing secondary hard drive in a gateway 5310s

in most new cases there are extra slots for extra hard drives, but as long as the ide or sata is hooked up it should work, and you can buy hardware and rig up something ,ive tested many hard drives without hooking up hardware,
the components on the hard drive should not touch other metal

Emachine t2984 - need to diagram to install power & hard drive

There is 2 main cables you have to worry about to feed power to the system. One looks like a big rectangle block with a mess of wires attached. Make sure he is hooked into the system. Then if its an newer unit you will find a plug that has square look to it with just 4 wires attached and should plug in nearby the processor. (only newer units us this) Also if your dealing with the cant turn it on issue make sure to remove all cards off the board like the NIC, Video Card, and Audio Card. I am unsure as to weather or not your system comes with everything onboard or if its stand alone cards. If you still cant power on theres a bigger issue at hand and that maybe that your motherboard has blown.

Ribbon hook-up

You should be using two, two connector IDE ribbon cables if I understand your questions correctly.

On IDE 0 you connect the hard drive and one cd drive.
On IDE 1 you connect the second cd drive.

You will need to make sure the jumper settings on the drives are correctly set.
