Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive

1 Answer

Dropped external hd not being recognized

I dropped a barracuda 7200.10 500gbytes. It made noises afterword and would not be recognized by windows except as a local disk ST3500830AS without an assigned drive number. I put it in the refrigerator overnight and still did not work the next day. the power light would go off also after a couple minutes. I swapped power supplies and that did not help.I used R-studio recovery and it would not open the drive files either.

I slapped the hd with the palm of my hand a few times. Now, the system doesn't recognize The drive on startup at all, but the power lght stays on.

I opened the drive to look inside. It appears start to spin ok. Shortly afterwards, the arm jumps every couple of seconds making a clicking sound, and a scratching sounds follows shortly. This lasts for a couple of minutes before it stops spinning altogether. I want to save the data if possible. I don''t know if that moving arm is working the way it is supposed to. Please advise.

Replace the hard drive, as dropping it has rendered it totally useless.  be more careful in the future.

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive External falled and now is not more recognized by my pc Win XP

Hello

OK, you need to let me know if the drive spins up, you should be able to hear it. Also, you need to have a listen if the drive makes a clicking noise.

Please be so kind tom let me know.

If the drive makes a clicking noise the drive is done, you will need to take it to a recovery institution to recover the data.

If the drive does not spin up, the circuit board or the power cable might be broken.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

Seagate 120 gig HD in Dynex enclosure not recognized by XP system

Ok, you didn't say if the drive had data or not? Anyway, if it is a drive with no data etc, you will first need to Initialize, & Format the drive before use. Is there any way you can connect it up to an "Internal" or "External" SATA port, & "See" if the drive is recognized, then at least you know the drive is OK.. Also try another USB port if available. If you know it is OK, then go to device manager and Uninstall the entire USB layer, reboot, it will re-install the USB again, with default settings, it NOW may be "Seen".

Seagate barracuda external 500 gb hard drive usb not seen any longer, cables and power okay , tried on three computers

Verify what Drives have been detected by your Operating System by using Windows: Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Your Hard disk(s) will be displayed with all existing partitions and any assigned drive letters.
Your external (or internal) drive must be recognized as having formatted partitions that have a drive letter assigned to each required partition.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go!

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 EIDE 160 GB. Computer does not recogniz

Hello

If you plug it in and windows states that the device could not be recognized, try plugging it in in one of the USB ports in the back of your case, This worked for me.

If you just can't see your HD in my computer, try these following steps.
Go to:
Conrtol panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management

Now you should see see the drive in the schematic below, then right click on the drive and assign a new drive letter.
Restart, and all should be set.

If this does not work, have a look at the jumper settings on the drive itself. For this you must take the hard drive out of the case again.
Hope this works. Please rate this.

Best regards

SECOND HARD DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED

Change the settings of you IDE drives in your BIOS. Set your secondary boot device to HDD1. Also make sure that your primary HDD is set to master and the secondary HDD is slave. The jumper is found at the back of the hard drive where you connect the power and IDE cables. Try this and post back as to how it went..

Pay attention to upper & lower case - it is important. Turn on power to the RS232-to-TTL adapter and the hard drive. After a few seconds, Press CTRL+z.
