Re: Very Little Color, Very Bright Screen
The focus controls on this set are in the front behind the bezel.
I'm not sure, but, I think on this age of Samsung, the screws to the
front bezel are on the back side of the set. After removing the screws
from the back, the front bezel snaps off and the door behind the bezel
need to be removed. Watch the wires connected to the bezel, they need
to be attached in order to turn on the set. The focus controls
are on a black control block (there are three of them, one for each
color). Adjust each color for sharpest picture. I use words on the
screen for alignment. Each CRT board has a screen control (Adjust
each slowly until retrace lines appear on the screen and then back off
until they disappear). You may turn off the color and make sure that
the picture is black and white. If it is not, then, which ever color is
dominant, back it off a bit with that screen control. Facing the set, Red is left, Green is middle and Blue is on the right. Use only one hand inside an operating television. Do not touch the board, just the controls. This concludes television alignment 101. Any questions respond to this post and I'll reply.

Since you have replaced the Color Wheel, it sounds like you have not adjusted the Index Delay in the service menu. First reset all of the picture settings you have adjusted back to original factory settings. Then on your Samsung TV Remote and with the TV OFF, Press Mute,Power,123. This will turn on the set and put you in the Service menu. Look for the top setting and select or scroll to the OPTION setting and select and look for INDEX DELAY and select that. Once you have the Index Delay selected use the right and left buttons on the remote to adjust for a picture the has no abnormal coloring and while looking at a program adjust for when the blacks look black with no abnormal coloring. Once that is done, turn off the set then turn the set back on. Now the picture should look normal.
yes! those are the screen and focus adjustments. 3 for screen, 3 for focus. try this. go in menu....turn down color, brightness, contrast all they way down. you should then have no picture, but in your case a little red. then go to back of tv and turn those 3 screen adjustments all the way down. slowly turn the screens back up until you get barely a picture. because remember, your brightness and contrast is all the way down. the picture should be dim but seeable and with red, green, blue adjustments, make it a black and white picture. when balanced..... turn up color , brightness, contrast in menu. enjoy!
It is actually a really simple problem. your blue picture tube is getting ready to go out. It is getting really bright because the filiment in the tube is starting to short out then after it shorts the colors will only be red and green. also you may notice that a section of the screen may look blurry. also a symptom of a dying tube. never fear though. the tubes can usually be found on ebay.
If the sound, sounds more like a Hum with some vibration chances are the Cooling fan located behind the lamp is going bad, about $20 to repair, if its a high pitch hum most likely the Color Wheel and if thats the case about $30.
Good luck, my fan just went bad now seeing green dots everywhere, so debating on just junking it out or fixing it, with winter coming on might just breakdown and buy LCD and say the heck with DLP from now on.
Good luck to you..
Normally, the screen control being up a little to high, would cause this problem.
If no one has worked on this unit when it started may be a sign of something else, for example, the 200 volt line may be running a little low.
Check the brightness and contrast for starters and if that doesn't help, then, the screen control would be my next step.
Hope this helps.
