Question about Linksys Wireless-G WUSB54G 802.11g/b

Adapter no longer detecting ANY connections.

My internet has worked fine with this adapter for almost a year now, and I've had the adapter longer than that, but now it will not detect a single connection. It normally picks up 3 or so wireless routers from around the neighborhood, but now it won't pick up any, including my wireless router that it always uses. I am using a computer now that is connected directly, and it works. I've tried unplugging, waiting, then plugging back in again, but that hasn't worked. Before it completely stopped working, it had connected, but at 1.0MBps, and then disconnected for no reason.

Never mind... it works now? It still randomly disconnects sometimes though. Not too often, but it's annoying enough.

wireless adapter sometimes has good connection, and sometimes has limited or no connectivity. internet seems to work most of the time but online games cut in and out randomly through the day, very annoying.

Well the router has never turned off by itself... I think that it's mostly a problem with my adapter. When I'm not getting a connection, the internet usually still works fine when it's plugged in directly to another computer, but I haven't tried using other wireless devices. And as far as I know, my service provider (Road Runner) has only gone down once, and when that happened, my modem didn't even get signal. Usually the only problem I have is on my computer, which uses this wireless adapter, and it will either randomly cut out or get slow speeds for no reason. Other than that, it usually works well.

Hi cpjango,

Most routers especially the smaller ones do not have anything that resembles good ventilation. If you touch the router and its anything more than luke warn then its pretty clear that your router is overheating and unless you take a few steps could be at risk of being damaged beyond repair. My suggestion is to make sure its standing in a position where minimal router surface touches anything else. Also keep it away from your monitor, pc, desktop and anything else that produces heat. If it keeps randomly shutting off i would even recommend a small fan or a replacement.
that said I am assuming its not your service provider.

please tell me how this turns out.

SOURCE: not detecting any wireless networks

Try this.

According to manual. You are to install "Driver" first. Thus, turn your computer off. Remove Wireless card,rReboot, run Dlink supplied "Driver" while your wireless card is still out, complete the installation. Turn your computer off, install hardware, turn back computer on.

If this doesn't solove the problem, try allocating your computer near to router and try above step again.

A power surge during a storm can damage the powerline adapters, in a heartbeat. This is a very strong possibility and you may need to replace the adapter(s). If it fried one, it can fry them both. Was any other electroonics connected to the power outlets in the home damaged? If so, then you may be out of luck, and need to replace them both.

Adapter inactive

It is not the problem with the router. It is the problem with the wireless adapter on your computer. Open Network connections and look for Wireless network connection. If it is not there then open the Device Manager and look for Wireless network adapter under Network adapters. It seems that wireless adapter on your computer is not working or it is not detected by your computer. If you have external wireless adapter then unplug it and replug it.

Please check your device manager, and look for the Network Adapters to see the status of your Network Card. First check if it is detected in the Network Adapter, If there is a yellow expression mark near it then you may need to reload the driver. Otherwise you can do a ping 127.0.0.1 on a command prompt (DOS) if it replies back then your Network Card is working finely.
Cheers.

One of two HP laptops connects to network but quit on Internet

did you play with your wireless router settings..?? When it is shown as unidentified, you have most probably set as hide network name . other computers may show up the name if you have saved the network settings on them at least once.

Drivers are fine as they are able to detect the network.

Driver detective is junk, find the model of your wireless adapter by looking on the back of it. Go to the manufactuers website and download correct driver. Are you sure this is a driver issue? Is the adapter USB? If it is USB try plugging it into the same USB port on your computer that it was in before the move.

No Active Internet Connection

If you want to use the wireless portion of your router, you would need a wireless adapter installed on your desktop. If you are getting internet on your desktop then this means that your wired connection is fine to the router is fine. The WMP54G adapter will work with your router, however if you are not planning on connecting to the internet wirelessly through the router then there is no need to purchase the adapter. Hope that this helps you out.

Is the hub you mention, an extension from another usb port only, as the adapter may need to be powered and require a AC/DC powered hub to work.
