Rebuild Hansgrohe equilibrium pressure balance valve

I want to know if I can fix the slow leak in the valve. I would like to rebuild the unit because replacing it will require remodeling the shower. I am concerned about turning the water pressure off and wonder if it needs to be done simultaneously because it is an equilibrium balanced valve.

This can most likely be resolved by replacing the cartridge. Turning off the hot and cold water to the unit is a must to replace the cartridge. If you need assistance with part numbers, breakdowns or instructions feel free to call me at 1-800-334-0455.

SOURCE: Kohler shower facuet pressure balancing problem?

ever since the pressure balancing regulations came out for shower valves, they have went from simple to very complicated devices. sounds as if some foreign material caused the valve to stop working. that valve is quit difficult to reassemble correctly because there is only one way it works and can be assemmbled many ways that do not work concerning alignment of the ports. if you dissassemble it and check that all the moving parts are functioning in the balancing cartridge you can then look closely at the alignment of the ports on the cartridge that the handle is connected to. understanding how the port align as the handle is turned should assist you in assembling it correctly......hope this helps.

SOURCE: grohe trim pressure balance valve

i looked at it and there might be a press in cap with a screw underneath where the grohe label is. there also may be a set screw around the shoulder of the handle where an allen hex wrench fits to losen its clamp on the stem. also.......some handles just snap on and just pull off with some tugging and wiggling them just right.

This is a common problem with this type of shower mixer valve. They are not very good at regulating with pressure change. Your options are somewhat limited to not flushing the toilet or using any other taps when in use, repalce the mixer valve for a modern ceramic unit or installing a 2 vane hot & cold shower pump.

Unit needs to be serviced. Check valve or Minimum pressure check valve leaking by or bad /weak spring. Would recommend and 8K service. This will have filters ,oil, and check valve/Min press check valve kits to rebuild them.

How to adjust water pressure

To adjust the pressure on this type of valve you simply rotate the handle counter clockwise from the off position. As you rotate the handle it will increase the volume as you increase the temperature. Feel free to contact me at Hansgrohe. David Scarborough 1-800-334-0455.

If there is no external leakage, then air is probably slipping back past the valves. If the cylinders and rings are good, a valve change may fix it. There are still aftermarket parts available for these machines. As a rule of thumb, a rebuild with rings, gaskets, valves, and bearings usually runs about $100 per horsepower.

I have a symmons shower that has barely any hot water and barely any pressure on the hot side?

Chances are it is a simple blockage.. at least that is the first place to check. In some cases simply removing the handle and tapping on the spindle with a plastic hammer/mallet will dislodge the particle.. or you may need to clean the balancing unit.
Turn the water supply off.. disasemble the valve and soak in vinegar overnite.. rinse well.. and reasemmble.

If this doesn't fix it you may need to replace or rebuild the assembly.

Good luck

Vehical acts as if it shifts between gears at a

The possibilities are:
low/high trans fluid level
short or open in LR pressure switch circuit
solenoid pack internal problem
40-way connector problem (9, 47, or 50 cavity)
control module failure
and then internal transmission problem (the rebuild).
Another table lists these possibilities:
faulty cooling system
torque converter clutch failure (that requires removal)
internal solenoid leak
too high or too low pressure
valve body leak
regulator valve
stuck/sticky valves
worn or damaged accumulator seal rings
damaged clutch seals
damaged L/R clutch
worn pump

Only the seal rings and L/R clutch damage and torque converter clutch failure would dictate a rebuild.
All the other items are serviceable without removing the trans, and involve the solenoid box for the most part which is external and accessible. So armed with these possible causes I would shop around to find a trans shop that would take a look at the alternatives to a rebuild job. The rebuild is in the range of $2k, so spending some time on the alternatives seems to be in order.

Hansgrohe concealed thermostatic mixer ref no 1537418

check for sediment in your valve body... sometimes sediment can build up particularly in hot water pipes and that can cause the pressure balancing function of the valve to limit total hot water and therefore you cant get it hot enough... here is a link to what I think is the proper valve and the instructions for installing it... you'll want to follow the instructions for flushing and pressure testing... if you have good pressure at the thermo body then you might try adjusting the hot limit stop also covered in the document linked below...
