I have lost the WEP security code for my router. How can I reset the WEP please

Normally I would request the model of router as they are all slightly different but similar.

Login to the ip address of the router through your browser and reconfigure security.
Most routers will have a specific ip and/or password. Please review the documentation for your model of router.

If this is not accessible then you will need to perform a factory reset on your wireless router or access point. After reset login to the ip address of the router through your browser and reconfigure security.

Please reviw the manufacturers web site for you router for the correct information required. If you do not have access you can call them for assistance.

The cd drive on my computer is not working, how else can i set up the router, i tried my laptop but it didn't work

Connect the router to your computer and power it up. In your browser type in: http://192.168.1.1
The default username and password is "admin" That will get you into the router. Run setup from there.

I'm locked out my labtop and its a dell I can't remember my password

Either boot from the Windows CD and format the drive and reinstall Windows.

Or, look for a free suite of programs call HiRens
-Burn it to disk and boot your system from it (Put it in the cd drive and restart - it should be picked up by default, if not, you'll have to change the boot order in the BIOS)
-Use a program on the disk called Active Password Changer

This will let you reset all local user account passwords.

There is not much else you can do if you don't know any logon passwords. But HiRens works for me everytime I need to do this on a users system.

Trying to connect my netgear router to my sky broadband need the adsl settings tried 192.168.0.1 but nothing happens

The address you type in the URL (192.168.0.1) has to be whatever your DEFAULT GATEWAY is-- to find out go to START>RUN and type IPCONFIG and then ok- you will see the DEFAULT GATEWAY (this is the routers address)-- If you see nothing (or 0's) it means the router did not get an address from your ISP--- you can try IPCONFIG/RENEW to get an address

I still cant find my wep address!

If its your wireless router, take 1 of 3 approaches:

1) forego the wireless connection and wie your PC to the router, ten log into the
router's system mgmt web page and view your WEP setting.
Use this WEP in your wireless link software.

HOW to reset a wireless router: press in the tiny "button" on the bottom.
This resets your router mgmt password to the default in the manual
and resets WEP security to OFF (the default).

Approach #2) reset your router, returning it to the default state, which
is no WEP protection. then, wirelessly login to your routers network
security web page, and set a WEP. Then use this WEP

Approach #3: reset your router, and leave WEP security disabled.
login wirelessly. WEP denies access to those without your
WEP password, it does not allow others to "see" what you're
doing on the internet (as many believe).

Cable company installed wireless router for internet into smartbox, but did not wire into leviton system itself. trying to connect to internet, only wireless works. which cat5 jack do you plug into, and do...

Make sure you can go online directly to the modem. If that is confirmed, you can connect the router directly to the modem and install it using the setup CD that came with it.

Getting ready to replace 2WIRE router

MAKE SURE THAT THE ROUTER IS NOT INSTALLED ON A CARPETED FLOOR: EVEN THOUGH YOU CHANGE ROUTER AND IT IS STILL WITHIN AN AREA THAT IT may encounter interference FOR THE WIRELESS SIGNALS

ANY ROUTER WOULD DO.

Belkin N Wireless Router doesn't connect to Modem

If router is brand new you should have a set up disk. the set up disk will walk you through it or you might log onto Belkin site to see a walk through set up. If you can access internet from modem to router to internet. That means router is functioning properly. To go completely wireless you will need to secure your network and setup your access codes. Definitely use the setup disk to do this. A unsecured wireless network is a nightmare waiting to happen. Good luck
