Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I recently bought a Microsoft LifeCam 1.4, duly downloaded the program onto my laptop and the first time I used it every worked perfectly. However next time the picture was perfect but there was no sound, so I took it back and got a new one. I was given a replacement and plugged it all in and still no joy. I have spent ages trying to work out why it doesnt work - I think its all down to the mute button, but unfortunately there is a drop down box which tells you to put the speaker on mute but not one to turn it back on....... HELP

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly. In fact I checked the settings on the control panel - sounds and audio devices and the slider was high. I had a chat with a friend who suggested uninstalling and reinstalling which I have just done. I am now waiting for someone to come on line to have a chat with. I will get back to you if the problem has been resolved. Many thanks. Birdie

Hi birdie,

Uninstalling and reinstalling the camera software may fix this problem as the settings should revert to when they worked for you the first time ( also go in and delete any folders left by the software after you uninstall)
Also i would try to connect another microphone to see if there is any sound that way you can rule out the lifecam as being the problem and concentrate on the fact that its your sound settings that are creating the difficulty.

Try to check the settings for your windows sound by going to start menu>control panel>sounds and audio devices and making sure that no volume slider is down or that no mute button is checked.
Also after asking around i found that this is a common problem with the lifecam due to some pc's only having half duplex(to techie?) what that means is they can only have sound or voice but not both at the same time.

I have a Lexmark 8300 most funtions work well from time to time scanning is an issue however OCR funtion WILL NOT WORK. I have the Instal CD, it seams to instal but can not use the function. I am running...

You must have a WORD TYPE program to save the scan too. I had this same problem until I installed Microsoft Office 2003 as well. It has been awhile but that is the case and mine now works perfect. You can get a free download of it for trial use. Or even an open source word program will work. If it ask you where to save the scan choose word or office if you already have them. the reason is you must use an editable program to edit the document.
Don't be surprised if the document you see isn't 100% as the document you scan because this is normal. You must be 100% that your scanned document matches - it is up to you to edit it for mistakes as they are not perfect. Some are in fact way better than others. The program with Lexmark is usually good. c88085b.jpg

By mistake I bought a dvd rw disc instead of dvd-rw disc and recorded a holiday video on my camcorder with it. I usually then upload the contents of the dvd onto my hard drive (Pioneer) and then download...

Try uploading to your PC then converting it to AVI this keeps quality of video. Then if you want to download to a disk use Nero to convert it to VOB (DVD format) and burn off. You can also use Nero to erase the disk. (Nero 7 or more recent preferably.) You must also be sure you PC DVD read write head can take the DVD +/- RW. CHeck compatability.
