On the toner cartridge, just to the right of the refill hole ( you
know... the one that has a label tape over it warning dire
consequences... fines, prosecution, imprisonment, etc... if you remove
it ) there is a small plastic window that allows the printer to see if
there's toner in the cartridge. There's one on the other side too, so
if you hold one up to a light you might see that light though the
other. Sooo.... simple! Cover the window with a bit of black tape, and
if you're lucky you can keep printing! Useful if you're right in the
middle of a print job and want to finish!
Of course, if you are really running low on toner ( and this proves it... it's not a driver glitch... or maybe the printer's "toner-detect-light" is too bright ) you will likely run out soon. But I've had this problem when print quality was still just fine... and it gets me through a few more jobs.
