Question about Printers & Copiers

On my Brother HL 2140 series printer, I changed the toner. I followed the directions that came with the toner, and it just won't work. When I put it in, the error light always comes on. I tried unlplugging the printer and taking the toner out a few times and putting it back in.

Open the front cover
Turn off the printer
Keep the go button pressed and switch on the printer
Once all light is lit release the go button
Press the go button twice again
Press the go button six times again
Close the front cover.

This should solve the problem

On the toner cartridge, just to the right of the refill hole ( you know... the one that has a label tape over it warning dire consequences... fines, prosecution, imprisonment, etc... if you remove it ) there is a small plastic window that allows the printer to see if there's toner in the cartridge. There's one on the other side too, so if you hold one up to a light you might see that light though the other. Sooo.... simple! Cover the window with a bit of black tape, and if you're lucky you can keep printing! Useful if you're right in the middle of a print job and want to finish!
Of course, if you are really running low on toner ( and this proves it... it's not a driver glitch... or maybe the printer's "toner-detect-light" is too bright ) you will likely run out soon. But I've had this problem when print quality was still just fine... and it gets me through a few more jobs.

1 Turn your Brother HL-2140 laser printer on.
2 Open the front cover by pulling the top latch toward you.
3 Pull the printer drum unit toward you. Put it on the clean, blank sheet of paper.
4 Push the green lever on the drum assembly down.
5 Remove the empty toner cartridge from the drum unit.
6 Shake your replacement toner cartridge gently to evenly distribute the toner inside.
7 Put the new toner into the drum unit and slide the unit back into your Brother HL-2140 printer. Close the top cover.

HL 2140 does not print

Hi,

This is a common problem to your brother printer model 2140. You need to turn off your printer and take out the toner. Look for the side and you will see a small hole on both sides. This is the sensor. You need to cover it with electrical tape.

Here is a detailed video on how to do it:

Good luck and hope this helps you.

Trick the thing. Put a piece of black electrical tape on the "eye". (Take cartridge out, on right side there's a small clear hole). Worked for me!
