Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

We have an Acer Aspire desktop computer, model T120E-F870. It's started turning itself off at regular intervals, during which a "power save" sign appears on the monitor. I've checked the cable is plugged in properly at both ends.

Thank you very much. I shall try these - but maybe slowly, as I'm over my head with other stuff - and let you know what worked.

    Okay thanks - and I won't forget!

Have the exact same issue, shuts down as in just powers off, i have a feeling it is a cpu overheating issue. As it's not my computer i'm not in front of it when it happens, but i think i will collect it and do some testing over the weekend.

This can happen for many reasons so we will start with the simple ones.

1- the power settings are set to turn off after a short period.
(unlikely due to the fact that the power just shuts off)

Solution
: right click on a blank part of the desktop and on the menu that drops down go to properties. Once in properties go to screen saver. At the very bottom there you should see a button called "power" click on that button and play with the settings until your satisfied that the computer is not set to turn off by itself at all. (no worries here you can set everything to never and you will be more than ok)

2- the insides of your pc are overheating. (most likely)

Solution: ok for this theres a ton of stuff you can do. but the main reason is that it is not getting enough cool room air inside. First unplug the machine then look at the fan on the back( it also may be on the side) if you see a ton of dust bunnies:) then your pc may need a bit of cleaning and can be easily done by removing the side panel. once you have the side panel off use compressed air found at any computer shop to get rid of the gunk. Hook the pc back up and make sure its in a spot where airflow is not a problem.

If one of these two options doesnt fix the problem then its possible that you have either a software conflict(happens alot) or maybe that a peice of hardware is begining to fail do to normal wear and tear.
If the options above dont help please feel free to contact me and i will walk you through what you need to do.

My Acer Aspire M1201 won't turn on.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

Acer ASpire M1100 shows No Signal on monitor

Any time a monitor says "no signal" that message is originating from the monitor itself, and not from the computer. A monitor in a room by itself with no computer will say "no signal" for a brief time, if it is turned on. So, if you have tried other monitors also with no luck, then the problem is either the video adapter of the computer, or something that is keeping the computer from booting in the first place (power supply, hard drive, memory, motherboard). A power supply can be tested with an inexpensive tool. Everything else needs either a swap out with a known good stand-in, or else an expensive tool to know if it works.Does the fan come on when you turn the computer on? If so, maybe more likely to be the motherboard, hard disk, or memory. If not, more likely to be the power supply.
