You should be able to just splice the wires together if your asking what i'm thinking. the port your talking about is the smaller port typically found for use of printers and cameras?
If that is the case you should be able to attach the two and i would try to find a diagram layout for you.
I look forward to your post

IPod Touch won't be read

Wont read what ?

Sometimes, you might find that your computer does not read that the iPod is connected to the USB port, preventing the synchronization of new files.

There are several potential causes for this lack of hardware recognition and many steps can be taken to troubleshoot the causes.

Reset your iPod's internal software using the key combination appropriate for your model. Apple's support documentation details how to do this for each available model.

(See Resources)

Install all iTunes software updates and restart your computer.

Connect your iPod directly to a USB port on the computer.

Do not attach through a keyboard port or USB hub.

These might not provide enough power to operate the iPod.

Connect the iPod to a secondary USB port.

If the iPod is recognized now, the original USB port might be damaged.

Connect the iPod using a secondary iPod USB cable.

If the iPod is recognized now, the original USB cable might be damaged and should be replaced.

Restore the iPod using a computer that can read it as a last resort. Connect the iPod to another computer, launch iTunes and select "Restore" from the iPod information screen.

This will erase all data and restore default settings.

Contact Apple support or visit an Apple store for further help if your iPod still cannot be seen. An advanced hardware issue might be present and a warranty hardware replacement might be indicated.

Hope this helps

Hi..my compaq CD drive is not working The CD drive is not seen in my compuer

hello

shut down the computer completely and disconnect power cable connection. make sure all cables to the CDROM are connected properly. If they are , remove the cables.
Remove the CDROM, clean it from any dust or debris with air compressor inside bay area and around the connection circuits. Replace the CDROM back into tray and start up computer. If problem persists. go to www.hp.com , retrieve CDROM part number and get a quote for replacement CDROM drive. The one you have obviously does not work at all.

Dont know where to plug in cd drive

You have to identify first what kind of interface your CD-ROM uses. This can either be IDE or SATA.
Note that for IDE interface, there is a master/slave/cs settings for the device. If you are using one cable to connect the hard disk and the CDROM,make sure that the settings for the hard disk is set to master and CDROM to slave. If the IDE cable you are using has a twist on it, then both device should be set to CS (Cable select)
For SATA, this is just point to point. Please check below link for more details.

MY OPTIARC DVD RW AD 7540 IS IN THE HARDWARE BUT I LOST IT AND IT WONT SHOW ALSO AS WELL AS IT DOES NOT WORK

1. Ensure the USB port is 2.0
2. Connect the drive directly to the USB port on the computer system. Do not connect the drive to a USB Hub
3. Try a different USB port on your system
4. Disconnect all other USB devices except a keyboard or mouse.

Also

1.
You need to ensure you are using the recommended media list.
2. Make sure the drive is listed okay in Device Manager. To ensure this, right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. You should have a listing here for optical drive. Double click on the optical drive and make sure there are no yellow ! marks on the drive.
3. Get the latest Firmware updates available for your drive.
4. Make sure your System/Nero ASPI files are not corrupt. Go to Nero/Nero tool kit/Nero info tool. Click on the ASPI tab. In the arrow down tab, check both your system and Nero ASPI files. At the bottom, it should display ASPI is installed and working properly. If it does not, please get the latest ASPI update. http://sony.storagesupport.com/.

Also

1. Make sure the power cable connect properly.
2. Try sticking a pin in the little hole next to the eject button on the drive. This resets the reset button for the drive to open again.

If it is a SATA drive, check the manual of the motherboard for SATA options/configuration in BIOS.
If it is an IDE drive, I suspect a bad configuration.
Set the jumper in CS (cable select) mode. You may connect it to the primary (end) or to the secondary (middle) connector of the IDE cable. Be sure there is no other drive on the same cable. Turn on your computer and verify if there is any changes in BIOS.
If the drive is not seen in BIOS the cable or the unit may be damaged or incompatible with your computer.
If the drive is seen in BIOS turn the computer off.
Now, you may add any other drive (if any) on the remaining connector on the same cable as it follows :
- set the jumper as Master or Cable Select if you connect the drive to the primary connector (end), or
- set the jumper as Slave or Cable Select if you connect the drive to the secondary connector (middle).

My cd drive will read cds but not dvds i try to istall somethig it wont work

Hi dkush29306,

while the other two posters have pointed out the obvious, that CDROM drives only read CDs, and that you need a DVD drive to read DVDs, i would like to add something to this.

I will asume you have a CDROM COMBO Drive, that *should* play CDRs and DVDs.

if you find it does spin CDs up and read them, but not DVDs then i might be able to offer some suggestions.

firstly, make sure there is no software conflicts (like two CD Writing softwares trying to use the CD Drive at the same time.. ). you shouldnt have to worry about drivers for the CDROM, as the default OS ones should suffice. but they may be corrupt. you could goto Device Manager if you are on Windows, and uninstall and reinstall the driver for the CDROM. it should find it automatically in the install wizard.

ok at this point i don't see how software could cause any other issue , so we should look at it being a hardware issue:

if you have the ability, try changing the IDE Ribbon Cable that connects the CDROM to the Motherboard. if that doesnt work, try changing which plug in the IDE cable the CDROM plugs into. these plugs usually have a blue plug at one end (motherboard end), and there is two plugs at the other end, or master and slave. keep the jumper pin on the CDROM set to Cable Select, so you dont need to change it to slave, when its plugged into the slave port, or master pin if set to the master port.

finally, if none of that helps (and it probably won't ) you might find that the actual fault is due to the laser in the CDROM not focusing tightly enough and therefore cannot read the data on a DVD ROM because of this. the only way to tell if this is ok or not, is to plug it into another computer and see if it can read DVDs.

you might just be better off spending 20-50$ and buying a new CDROM Combo drive from your local computer hardware store.

Cd rw/dvd rw now working

If you know how to open your laptop, you can try seeing if the cable to the CDROM is connected properly. On startup, does your computer recognize the drive? If it's not the cable, you need a new cdrom drive.

My cd rom is not shown/detected by my computer. The computer says no cd rom connected, but all the connections are intact,

Have you set the jumpers at the back of the cdrom to slave if you already have another peice of hardware on the same idr cable, if not and only the cdrom is in the ide cable it should be set to master. Also check the bios to see if it is recognised, press F2 or DEL on start up and see if it's there under standard bios settings.
