Question about Brother MFC-8860DN Printer

Poor print quality from Brother MFC-8860DN

Hi there, we have problems with our Brother MFC-8860DN. Copies and prints have dark blotches down the LH side edge. I have cleaned the scanner glass, corona wire and just recently the drum (cotton swab and rubbing alcohol) which had an accumulation of toner on the LH side. I thought that was it, but when I printed again the marks were still there, and the toner had reaccumulated at the same place on the drum. Help!

Replace the drum. The drum is failing.
When you replace the drum open the front door of the machine where thr drum and toner is.
Hit the clear/back button. Press 1
That resets the drum count after you replaced the unit.

Copies are spotty black-need to replace the drum?

Go to reports and print any report, if it looks OK then you just need to clean the glass to improve copy quality. Usually it tells you when the drum is near the end of life.

Try cleaning the black printer heads several times in a row, at least 5 times then print a black document with best quality setting.
Press the ink button, then down to select select cleaning and then press menu/set and menu/set again to select black.

I have a BROTHER MFC- 8860DN that makes black streaks on copies

If this is only happening with copies and not straight prints, it is possible that the problem is with the scanning unit. Use the soft cloth to clean the scanner area to the left side of the machine where pages are scanned when run through the page feeder. A spec of dust or other debris in this area will appear as a streak along the length of the page.

If it occurs on all prints, You may need to replace the drum or clean the fuser unit.

This machine truly isn't designed for printing very high volumes of heavier bonds/envelopes. I think what you will notice is if you only print a few sheets at a time that the toner will be better fused than if you print many sheets.( you can check /test yourslef) The heavier bonds will quickly and dramatically reduce the temperature of the fuser and it can't recover on long runs of heavy paper.
Low temperature= poor fusing

the messages you get for cartridges other than the original are not trustful. You will get the right reading for original(from Brother) cartridges. Some ink is poor for printing photo quality.

not any refillable ink is right for printing photos, sometimes too dark, sometimes you don't get the right mix of colors.
