Question about Microwave Ovens

4 Answers

Relatively new (last few months) Panasonic "Genius Sensor 1300w" microwave oven has stopped giving any heat. The display shows a code-H98. After unplugging and plugging back in, and loading a glass of water into the oven, the light and timer will go on but the food will not heat.

I have no idea where I should look to check whether the "ignitor" is on. Where is it and how do I tell whether it is on?

  • dhattis Nov 12, 2008

The fan definitely does run when I restart the on switch after unplugging and plugging back in.

That would be a Panasonic inverter failure code, but please reply back with your brand and full model number.

H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.
Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer.

If your microwave is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty and you should contact them to get it repair because the Panasonic microwaves use error code H98 to indicate a failure of the magnetron or inverter circuits.

These are soaring voltage circuits; do not try to fix it your self!

This error means that there's a problem with the inverter, magnetron or digital programming circuit.

It would be best if you send this in to your nearest Panasonic authorized service center.

IF THE LIGHT IS PERFECT THEN

9 times out of 10 this is usually this is a bad magnetron, the other time is sometimes a bad high voltage diode. See components section.

Many thing can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay...

  • mmechanics Nov 12, 2008

check out if the fan is running if its not running then
This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.

  • mmechanics Nov 12, 2008

This often is a stuck or faulty door switch and it has blown the interior microwave fuse

  • mmechanics Nov 12, 2008

the fan is the important part because
the fan cools the magnetron and electronics,if its not running the problem u r facing can definately occurs
take the microwave in for service, most fans are not too expensive to replace.

  • mmechanics Nov 12, 2008

when u ON device if u feel the light is glowing properly that means it is ON.if the light does not glows properly it is not proper.
if it is ON.check out for the other doubts which i had given that will help u.

Panasonic genious sensor inverter 1300w nn-t664sfx displays code "h98" & will not run - what's the problem?

Mine did this once and it was the magnetron. Once replaced, it worked fine. Repair is an option if it is still under warranty or someone will do it on the cheap. Otherwise, just get a new microwave, since this is the main part.

H98 error message. Micowave not heating, stops after 37 seconds

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt , http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt and http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Doesn't work

No model number?? I'd be pretty suspicious why someone removed the model / serial tag!!

I'd be even more suspicious if someone sold you a microwave with such a serious problem without informing you of it in the auction item description beforehand.

H98 means you have a bad inverter, magnetron, or control board.

You can find a troubleshooting chart for this error code here.
