The P880 can use SD cards (NON SDHC) up to 2 Gb.
It supports FAT16 filesystem, so 2 Gb is the max.
If you frequently use RAW or TIFF you might want to use the fastest you can get (150x)
The problem is that you upgrade the 3DS console before upgrade r4i sdhc. Please following the below steps 1. Download latest r4i 3ds V1.60b firmware from official page http://r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp, and install it to the MicroSD card.2. Find a DS or DSi console, put the R4i SDHC 3DS card with MicroSD into the Ds or DSi console.3. Power on the console to enter the R4i main menu4. Choose the third button and click, you can enter next steps5. Press the "upgrade" button, you will enter the next steps6. Click "start" button to start the upgrade process.7. Wait about 2 minutes, the upgrade process finish.
You can use any SD or SDHC card. It's your call as to what's "best". You can go with the largest, fastest, or least expensive. Or you can choose one with the prettiest label, even if it's hidden from sight most of the time.
Fastest way is to change your system date. I got an r5i rev. and got today the same prob. I put the card out set the system date to the 01,12,2000 and working again. Its the fastest way to solve but when the date comes again on it will do the same again. What i understand it has something to do with the 1.2v from kernel. I´m searching now for my one for the 1.18v kernel. What i read it has to work fine with that.

This totally sucks. I have a similar issue with my Canon Vixia HF R20 and I'm using a Lexar Pro 64Gb 133x SDXC card. When trying to initialize the card, its fails and says "Process terminated with error." It also says "check the memory card" when I first put it in. Write-protect is off. My other SanDisk class 4 SDHC card seems to work ok. I could have sworn it worked before and I was able to transfer videos to my Mac on 10.6, but I can't remember for sure if I was using the SDXC card or just the built-in memory. Very frustrating.

The 2 Gbytes SD card will work for sure ! The only questions it is about if it will take the so called SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) which are all the SD cards bigger than 2 GBytes.
Check the user manual/guide for any information regarding SDHC before you buy. and always buy the fastest SD card !! ;-)
