Question about Compaq Armada E500 Notebook

Need software wrote an email to compaq (HP) and got a return letter. Hewlett Packard cannot help me in the software dept. I have a compaq armada e500 which has gone amuck! Win xp proffessional won't work anymore. owner done an fdisk through msdos 6.2 now nothing works. she doesn't have any recovery disks or really anything to get it going again. short of tossing this thing in the trash she brought it to me to try to get it cooking again. I tried everything I know which is very limited so now I turn to you guys. what can I do to bring life back into this laptop?

Your only hope is that you have a Windows XP pro installation disk to either repair or re install Windows, although a repair is only of use if you still have the principal windows installation. How is XP still there if the notebook has been formatted? If your recovery disk ;which I recon was on another partition on the hard drive is long gone, then the only solution is to purchase XP, although XP home is a cheaper, but just as good a version please rate this solution.

How do i connect crw-785 to compaq armada e500

This e500 has USB1.0 and transfer rate will be slow. If you use Win 98 then install the USB driver (get on web) first. Install software then plug in the USB lead from the crw-785 and don't forget to plug in the DC adaptor for the drive, (e500 USB port does not have enough power to run external drives other than some older thumbdrives).

How to fit memory to laptop compaq armada e500

most hp/compaq laptops will have memory slots located under the keyboard, and sometimes an additional memory slot accessed through a panel on the bottom of the notebook.
In your case, you have 2 memory slots located under the keyboard. Officially, this unit only supports up to 256 mb memory modules for a maximum of 512 MB of memory so if you already have that, be aware that larger capacity memory modules may not work.

Windows 98 se, xp not installed to compaq armada E500 pc notebook

First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.
