To "unlock" the operator panel on the IBM 6400 Line Matrix Printer, depress the Scroll Up and Scroll Down keys at the same time. On the IBM 6500 Line Matrix Printer, depress the Return and Enter keys at the same time. This acts as a toggle; if locked this action will unlock the panel, ifunlocked this action will lock the panel. The operator panel willindicate briefly which function is being performed. The printer powersup with the operator panel "locked."

Either the job you are sending over is very large and the printer does not have enough memory to accommodate the print job or you are not using the correct driver. If you will go to the printer under "devices an Printer" and right click on the printer icon, select "printer Properties", and navigate to the advanced tab, you will see which driver your computer is using. The three most common drivers are PCL5, PCL6, and Post Script (PS). try using a different flavor as some printers like some better than others.
Each type of software installed in your system has to coincide with other softwares. A driver is a type of software that allows the hardware connected to your PC to communicate with the system. A sudo language so to speak. If the hardware is having a tough time with the communication you can try a new dialect and see if it improves.

Here is a link where you can download the various drivers for your system based on your flavor of OS for the printer you specified Drivers Software Firmware for HP Color LaserJet 4700 Printer series

How resolve cannot "Connect to Network Printer" with Windows Vista

One of the more interesting errors in Windows Vista happens when you try to connect to a shared network printer. Most of the time you'll receive an "Access is Denied" error when trying to connect even though you can see the printer on the network and everything else is working properly.
Everything else on the network appears to work properly, shared files, internet access, etc. However, you just cannot access the ahared printer and print.
The solution is to add the printer as a local printer and then try printing. Follow the directions below to accomplish this.
f114c08.jpg

1. Go into Control Panel 2. Underneath the Hardware and Sound category, click on Printer 3. Click on Add a printer from the top menu 4. Click on Add a Local Printer 5. Choose Create a New Port with type of port remaining Local Port, then click Next 6. In the Port Name box type the path to the printer you wish to connect to and Click Ok
Ex. \\mycomputer\myprinter
If the computer you wish to connect to is named Bob and the printer is called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP
7. In the Install Printer Driver screen, select your printer from the list or choose Have Disk and find the location of the printer drivers on the computer then click Next and then click Finish. 8. You should now see the printer installed in the Printers window. 9. Right-click on the printer and click Properties 10. On the General tab, click Print Test Page to test the printer.
You should now be able to printer from Windows Vista to this networked printer without any problems.

Hp 5550dtn on start up i get a blank screen & three light son

Unplug the printer and remove the jet direct card, the one the network cable plugs into and try to restart. if pirnter starts your jet direct card is bad and will need to be replaced. If that does not work, try reseating the memory on the formatter. The formatter mounted to the metal panel that the above mentioned jet direct card plugs into. There will either be two black handles to pull on, on you may need to remove 10 screws around the outside edge of the formatter to remove it. Make sure the printer is unplugged before removing or inserting the formatter.

How to use HP Laserjet 2300 dn offline. This printer is a network printer

Thank you for contacting FixYa with your inquiry.
This printer can work very well via a standard printer cable directly connected to your computers LPT Terminal. Most of Microsoft's current Operating Systems already have the LaserJet J2300 drivers built in and will automatically install when connected.
To confirm your connection to go to your computers printer setup and ensure the driver is configured to print from LPT1 port and click on print a test page. (Start/Settings/Printers/LJ2300 - Right Click on properties then click on the tab for ports. The general tab should have a button to print test page)
The network card that comes with your printer (Jet Direct Card) will not be used with this method nor will the Ethernet cable be required.
Hope this helps helps. Please keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.

We have a 170xiII Zebra connected to an IBM 3174 (coax) need to change connection to a jet direct. What parts do I need? Basically I want to remove the coax connection and add a jet direct or network...

You should be able to add either a jet direct box or an external Zebra ZebraNet PrintServer box to the parallel port of the printer. This will give you a network connection.

Linksys sd2008 won't work with printers

I need more information regarding your problem. You mentioned printers, which I assume you are referring to more than one printer device.
Are the printers connected or capable of using the Ethernet port on the gigabyte switch? If they or some of the printers are connected directly to the switch through an Ethernet cable you may need to configure the device from the I/O menu accessed through the printer setup to activate the Ethernet connection or Jet Direct from the HP printers. You will need to assign a TCP/IP address on the printer which should match the computer's network IP without duplicating the address. If the computer IP address is 192.168.0.1 the printer must use an address which no other computer or device is using, for example, 192.168.0.100 (note you can only change the last number of the IP address).
If you are trying to access printers connected to a port on one of the network computers I need to know if it is a PC or MAC? If it is a PC, I need to know the operating system type i.e. Windows, DOS, Linux, or Unix and version i.e. Windows7, Vista, XP, 98. I will assume Windows XP, which needs to have the printer device marked as Shared. Go into start and select printers and faxes. Right click on the printer you are trying to use and select Sharing. Select Share this printer and give it a share name to help you identify it when shared on the network and click OK. Go to another computer on the network where you want to use the shared printer. Go into start and select printers and faxes. Click on Add a Printer. Click next and select add a network printer. Select browse for a printer and click next. After a few moments, you should see your shared printer with the share name. Select the printer and continue through the rest of the installation. You should be able to use the printer from that computer. If your printer is connected to a computer, you must have that computer on to use it on the network. If your printer is connected to an Ethernet switch you will be able to use the printer as long as the printer and switch is turned on. If this does not help try to be more specific, and I will clarify the instructions.

Connecting HP Laser Jet to network

If you can ping it you can print to it. You simply need to add the proper network printer drivers, and the IP address for the printer to your network on EACH computer tha t you wish to access the printer. It is not hard to do but is not a brainless windows automatc set up either. You can download the drivers from many places including www.feedrollers.com which deals with parts and accessories for these printers as well as all the manuals, users AND SERVICE, that you will need. By the way, I used to be an HP service tech... I even go to feeedrollers for my own use...

How do I add another computer to my printer? Does it matter that the computer it is currently attached to is an iMAC, but the laptop I want to add has the Vista operating system?

That depends on if the printer has its own IP or if it is connected to a PC and shared. If it is connected to a PC and shared, then no you can't connect them due to the difference in OS's (even if you are sharing from an XP machine you can't connect from a Vista believe it or not). If the printer can be put on a network (use a small office router) and then connect the printer either thru its own NIC or with the use of an external jet direct it would be the best alternative simply because the printer would be its own entity on the network and not need a master PC to operate.

Hope this helps.
