Question about Panasonic Palmcorder PV-GS14 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Tape will not eject, and reset button does NOTHING!

Please someone help me, I have a fairly new PV-GS14 that is out of warranty but only used a few times. I put a tape in and was in the middle of rewinding or something trivial and then I get a blue screen saying "PUSH THE RESET SWITCH". I pushed the RESET button and it sounds like it trys to do something, but fails and gives me the same message again, and again, and again. I open the door to eject the tape and it refuses to eject. I've tried all combinations of pressing the button with the door open and shut, and immediately taking off the battery, and a whole bunch of other things, and nothing works! I don't know what's wrong or what happened! Please someone give me a good solution. I feel if I could somehow get the tape out, I might be able to save the camera, but it won't eject for anything and the reset button does NOTHING! Thanks!

This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry or a bad motor. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can usually be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired qualified service technician.

The tapes In my Panasonic PV-GS14 are stuck and won't run

you cannot move the spindles/cogs in a mini dv tape without pressing down a small lever on the rear of the cassette.
the lever is in the lower right, move the lever, then move the ribbon protector to the open position, then spin the cogs, the tape should be free.
if not, then you have a jamm inside the cassette, you can open these casettes by removing 4 small screws. ( this is a very fiddly job & you may ruin the casette, if you dont know how )

I had the same problem. In desperation, I picked up my trusty can of compressed air and aimed a few shots into the recorder/playback mechanism. Worked like charm.

I have the same problem with my PV-GS14. You have to find the last spot you recorded in, pause it, then switch to record, and just record something for a couple of seconds. Switch back to playback, and it should be fine. Neonlaundry, I read your other posts, and it seems we both have the same problems. If you find a solution, please post it. Thnks.
