Question about Xerox Phaser 7750DN Laser Printer

Xerox Phaser 7750DN wrinkled paper

I've been using this printer for about 4 years. I love it, but occasionally paper will develop a tight wrinkle that runs across the whole sheet. It's not a consistent problem, but it is increasing in frequency. It happens with any size of plain paper. I'm using 20 lb multi-purpose laser paper.

Thanks for your help. My supplies usage page shows the fuser as still having 71% life remaining. I don't print a lot of sheets, as I am a freelancer and do most of my proofing with pdf files. Can you tell me how I can find out how many copies I've printed?

  • dcolbert Nov 14, 2008

    Thanks for the info.

I checked and I see that I've printed 14,000 copies in 4 years. the paper does seem to wrinkle more on the 11 x 17 duplex and since you describe my problem as textbook, well, I believe it. sounds like the fuser belt is the problem.

Will it cause greater problems if I don't fix it now? I'd rather live with it until it gets worse; the economy being what it is.

Thst comes from the pressure belt wearing in the fuser. You can do one of 2 things. Either replace the pressure belt, or replace the fuser module itself.
You can look up on google a business called The Parts Drop, give them a call and see which you want to do. Replacing the pressure belt isnt hard, but when you add the lubricant to the end it can be very messy.
After 4 years though, I would suggest replacing the entire fuser. The teflon on the heat roller has to be wearing and the thermistors, stripper fingers are wearing some too. Just my suggestion, you can rebuild it.

If you print out a config sheet or startup page it will have the meter read on it.

The amount of copies you have on it is not really going to determine if the fuser belt is in need of repalcement. Those can start to cause wrinlkes at about 20,000 pages. The life on that fuser is supposed to be about 90,000, but rarly will they make it anywhere near that number of pages.

The wrinkle you are describing, and the fact that it is not constant, and occuring more frequently is a text book explaination of a bad pressure belt.

What happens is the constant pressure on that belt will cause it to compress, even when the machine isn't being run.
2 things you can do to determine if it really is the fuser is this. 1 Is the wrinkle more frequent on duplex ( 2 sided) pages, and run 11x17 paper and see if it wrinkles about 75 percent of the time.

Honestly you are describing a fuser problem to the "T"...

No it wont get worse, I have to see if I can find the adjustment for that belt. There is an alternate adjustment that has a 50/50 chance of helping. I just cant find it off hand, I will send when I find it

The printer trays accommodate most sizes and types of paper, transparencies, or other
specialty media. Follow these guidelines when loading paper and media in the trays:
- Envelopes, labels, and glossy paper can be printed from Tray 1 (MPT) only.
- Transparencies and custom size paper can be printed from Tray 1 (MPT) and Tray 2.
- Fan paper, transparencies, and labels prior to loading them in the tray.
- Use only paper envelopes. All envelopes should be printed single-sided only. Some
wrinkling and embossing may occur when printing envelopes.
- Do not overload the paper trays.
- Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size.
- If excessive jams occur, use paper or other media from a new package.

That is caused 99 percent of the time by the fuser.
There is a solid aluminum roll and a silicon rubber ( pressure) roller in the fuser. The pressure roller either developes some flat spots from park ( non running) time and over time heat and use cause it to deform and become out of round. What then happens is when the paper enters the fuser it does so with a slight twist, and the pressure of the fuser, for lack of a better term, Irons in that crease during the fusing process.
Gave the explaination so you would understand what is happening.

Phaser 7700GX Color Printer prints wrinkled pages!

when this occurs the problem is most of the time with the transport roller, fuser / fixing assembly roller.question is the image still toner only and not fused to the paper.
In these areas there is offen a jammed and not removed piece of paper dislodged in the paper path or jammed in the fuser or the transfer rollers teflon coating has perished inspect the areas carefully and remove any found if the unit still is faulty (fanning of paper the fuser would be the first to be replaced are past there usable life) if so then Post a reply
